Work History
Enterprise Applications Architect & Lead Database Administrator. 3/2007 - present.
Echelon Corporation, San Jose, CA. Echelon makes energy control networks, including smart meters.
• In charge of and responsible for the uptime of Echelon's production ERP system, using on Oracle Applications 11i (11.5.10.2) on 11g (11.2.0.1). Includes troubleshooting, maintenance, backup and recovery, architecting new systems, patching, performance tuning, and Solaris 10 (SPARC) system administration. We have t5220, t2000, and v880 sun servers and a pair of 2500FC fiber arrays, and I architected the setup, and I currently manage them.
• Just went live (mid-May) on a project to apply the 11i extended support baseline functional & recommended patches – 350+ applications patches. I wrote the 57-page project plan, and I was the lead DBA who led the 60-hour execution time, and trained my colleagues in Oracle patching.
• In summer of 2010, completed a major upgrade of the RDBMS from 9iR2 to 11gR2with accompanying CPU & Apps techstack patching-- which fulfilled all the technical parts of the 11i extended support baseline patching, and prepares us for R12. 300 page project plan.
• One year ago, developed and executed a108-page plan to patch up to ATG RUP 6 with XML Publisher, latest CPU patches, and Database patchset upgrade. Also responsible for some Windows severs running Oracle Essbase and SQL server. 100 page project plan.
• In addition, responsible for DBA & Sysadmin support of the following Enterprise Systems: EDI, Agile (uses an Oracle Database), Business Objects, Remedy , including Microsoft SQL server.
• In 2009, architected the infrastructure for the implementation of (a) the migration of Oracle production from a Sun v880 with internal storage to a pair of T2000 machines with a SUN 2450FC array, (b) the upgrade of Oracle Agile 8 to Agile 9.2.2.3 upgrade, including migration from Dell Windows servers to Dell Linux servers, as well as simultaneous migration to 8i to 10g RDBMS, and installation and patching of both the Solaris 10 OS and the Sun Storage Array / Snapshot software.
• Responsible for Clarity (Budgeting App) which uses a SQL Server/ Oracle Essbase backend.

• Served as an Apps DBA / Oracle DBA on prod, dev & test databases for 500 customers / 1500 databases
• Upgraded customers daily to current Apps components (11.5.10.2, 9iAS, Jinitiator, Disco 10g, 10g DB)
• Served on the mass-patch team, creating project plans for complex family packs for escalated customers.
• Acted as the lead for 5 upgrades where each plan was a complex 100-page technical document
• Researched and implemented an internal knowledge base for our team, used daily by over 100 engineers
• Initiated a plan to improve our “master doc”, saving an average 10% time
• On a daily basis handled patch execution, configuration / optimization, issue resolution / troubleshooting
• For 30 days after an upgrade, was responsible for handling any/all post-upgrade issues including managing the customer’s expectations, coordinating with development and project manager, coordinating with other teams e.g. the performance team, the configuration team, the monitoring team, the recovery team.
