PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
EMULEX, Bothell, WA February 2011 - March 2011
Test Engineer
Responsible for writing LabVIEW programs to automate characterization of Emulex's high speed communications
ICs. Created a generic script execution and editing program to allow the engineers to automate tasks without having
to write additional programs.
ELBIT SYSTEMS of AMERICA, Tallahassee, FL 2007 - 2010
Test Engineer
Responsible for writing automated and manual functional test programs and procedures, as well as test for the
SPEA 4040 Flying Probe Tester. Reviewed engineering changes, provided training and technical assistance to
technicians.
* Overhauled TestStand Sequences used for testing Rugged PDA reducing test times 50% by performing
parallel tasks and improving the operator interface.
* Provided Engineering with a program used for measuring and graphing Frequency Response, VSWR, and
Harmonic Distortion of RF amplifiers.
* Wrote a program to automatically upload test results to Oracle, providing results from the Flying Probe
Tester.
* Designed and implemented EMS Equipment Maintenance and Status, a VB6 program used to track of
maintenance records in Oracle Database.
* Created a utility program for editing Test Information stored in Oracle Database.
CIENA CORPORATION, Linthicum, MD 2006 - 2007
Senior Engineering Technician
Responsible for writing and maintaining LabVIEW Programs and TestStand Sequences that were used for
production testing of fiber optic transceivers, amplifiers, and service modules. This included measuring extinction
ratios, calibrating input and output powers, adjusting wavelength, and measuring bit error rates.
* Created a common testing program used for testing of over 30 versions of wavelength filters. This replaced
30 separate programs thus simplifying the maintenance of the software while also reducing test time.
* Developed a station and software used by stockroom personnel to load the software specified by customers
into the Nodal Control Processors. This eliminated the need to transport the NCPs back to the factory for
technicians to load the software.
WILCOXON RESEARCH, Gaithersburg, MD 2002 - 2006
Senior Engineering Technician
Responsible for developing LabVIEW programs and test fixtures for testing Wilcoxon Vibration Transmitters, as
well as their PC 420 sensors.
* Received "President's Innovation Award" for conceiving of and developing "VibeLink" a distributed
LabVIEW program for remotely monitoring up to eight vibration sensors on a single computer.
* Redesigned test fixtures to use relays driven by a National Instruments Digital I/O card to switch channels
allowing for automation of testing (previously the test operator had to manually set switches).
* Developed test fixture to verify that the output of each channel is tracking the corresponding input.
CIENA CORPORATION, Linthicum, MD 1996 - 2002
Senior Engineering Technician (RF and Digital)
Responsible for developing LabVIEW programs for the Engineering Department of CIENA Corporation.
Applications include calibration, short and long term testing.
* Fabricated prototype circuit boards (bread boarding).
* Worked with engineers on new boards. Operated LPKF Protomat (a computer controlled milling machine for etching
PC boards).
* Evaluated parts for use in CIENA's products.
* Tested, troubleshot, and repaired to component level CIENA's Electronic circuits.
* Designed the user interface for the 10 Gig Bit Error Rate Tester.
* Developed a program to automate environmental testing of parts and modules.
* Discovered that a particular vendor's part was failing with burst of errors (through the use of LabVIEW)
* Served as an internal auditor for ISO 9000.
Prior to 1996 worked as an Engineering Electronic Technician.
EDUCATION
* Certificate in Computer and Communications Electronics from the Arundel Institute of Technology
* National Instruments trained in LabVIEW and Test Stand
* SPEA trained in Leonardo Flying Probe Test Software
