Duties: Project Controls Engineer on BP Toledo Reformer 3 project responsible setting up cost control system for owners scope of work to integrate cost and schedule to provide accurate forecasting aligned with scope of work.
Jul 06 to Nov 10 Project Controls Manager – BP Whiting Refinery Modernization Project Indiana
Duties: Project Controls Manger on BP Whiting Refinery modernization programme, this is a multi Billion dollar project involving the construction of several new units and considerable modification to existing units which will effectively double the capacity of the refinery. I am responsible for controlling the cost and schedule for the outside battery limit work and coordination with the on-going Whiting operations and minor projects. This work involves 73 separate work scopes which need to be individually controlled in terms of cost & schedule as stand alone projects and then rolled up into project manager’s portfolios and the overall work scope. I also liaise with the various contractors to ensure that BP’s expectations are fulfilled and contractors are paid in a timely manner with BP getting value for money. We are required to ensure that all systems meet with accounting requirements and will seamlessly interface with existing BP systems and contractor’s tracking systems. Jun 04 to May 06 Project Controls Manager – British Nuclear Group Sellafield.
Duties: Provided advice and guidance while managing all aspects of a team of portfolio planners together with the leads of the planning, cost engineering & estimating to provide a centre of excellence within the business control office. A new reporting system was implemented to allow management to easily identify areas of concern within a portfolio of projects. This was a challenging role as BNG converted to a contracting organisation from a government funded owner / operator.
Feb 03 to Jun 04 Project Controls Manager – Bechtel London & India
Duties: Responsible for all planning and cost control activities on Reliance Value Maximisation Project through FEED to handover. This was an extremely fast track project to revamp the entire refinery complex in a time scale of 18 Months from Front End Design to full process operation. The scope included extensive FCCU modifications, New Propylene Recovery Unit, additional power generation & water supply. I was responsible for the entire scheduling activity co-ordinating client site planning team to produce an integrated schedule from conceptual design to construction / handover. The project was fully reimbursable so I was also responsible for producing man-hour reports detailing expended and ‘to go’ man-hours. I have also produced the Bechtel internal project financial status reports for senior management.
3 month assignment setting up joint venture project controls systems for new process units in Tengiz, Kazakhstan. This was a complete level 4 master schedule fully resourced to enable to link in with main contractor’s master schedule.
3 month assignment providing project controls advice for station works on Piccadilly, Northern & Jubilee lines station renovations on London Underground.
Dec 01 to Feb 03 Principal Planning Engineer – M.W.Kellogg Ltd Antwerp Belgium
Duties: Lead a team of 6 planning engineers to set up shutdown planning system for major revamp of Fina Antwerp Olefins plant in Antwerp. A considerable amount of demolition and installation of new equipment was planned to be integrated with the normal turnaround maintenance activities.
May 98 to Dec 01 Senior Planning Engineer – Bechtel Paris & London
Duties: Initially setting up level 3 schedule and progress monitoring tools for design through construction for $1.6 Billion refinery modification in Abu Dhabi. (Onshore Gas Distribution II). Later transfered to new £450 million Prestwick air traffic control centre project to act as owner’s project controls representative.
Jun 97 to May 98 Senior Planning Engineer – AMEC Scotland
Duties: Responsible for all planning for a major upgrade project at Exxon Fife Ethylene Plant which was completed during the major plant turnaround. This involved working closely with field supervision to determine suitable construction sequences for installation of new equipment with the existing process units.

Duties: Advised British Nuclear Fuels Ltd on setting up Maintenance Management System for their new Mixed Oxides reprocessing plant at Sellafield. This was to ensure that all planned maintenance work was integrated with the ongoing commissioning work.
