• Perform basic senior histotechnologist procedures of processing, embedding, cutting, mounting and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by Pathologists to perform basic special, IHC stains and prepare solutions as needed; to use, care and maintain histology instruments to perform quality control and quality assurance to perform specialized procedures. Responsibilities include processing autopsy, patient surgical pathology specimens, cut paraffin blocks using microtomes, stain prepared tissue, and manual and automatic coverslip slides.
• Embeds routine tissue in paraffin, orienting according to tissue type indicated on worksheet. Checks surgical, skin case number and verifies on worksheet. Records on grossing sheets the number of blocks received and organize blocks for sectioning.
• Sections paraffin blocks of routine tissue using a microtome. Mounts paraffin section on microscopic slide and transfers surgical case number to slide. Verifies match of surgical case number between blocks and slides.
• Performs H&E and routine manual and automatic special stain, IHC in ventana platform.
