MOTOROLA – Wi-Tribe Project Pakistan

WiMAX IP Core Engineer Jan 2009 to Present, 2010

• Have a key role in integration and support of WiTribe WiMAX network(700+ APs and 4 ASN) from the scratch in Pakistan. The core network is composed of Ericsson Smart Edge core routers, Foundry XMR Core switches, Ericsson Netop PM (AAA+ DB) Servers, Motorola CAPC and SUN Application servers for DHCP/DNS/NTP and Ericsson/Motorola Element Management System.

• End-to-end IP core and RAN support Services role to own and resolve, quickly and efficiently, complex issues and queries with high customer visibility and impact spanning several technical domains. Examples include:

• Designing and implementation of core routing flow for WiMAX core network.

• Evaluation of alternative core Network architectures and long term planning of core network evolution.

• Perform complex installation, integration and upgrade activities on Ericsson Smart Edge 400/1200, Motorola CAPC, Ericsson (Redback) NetOP EMS and PM management products.

• Investigating and ensuring on-time resolution of core network issues so as to minimize outage times and maintain Grade of Service.

• In depth analysis of hardware/firmware issues and necessary escalation to Ericsson and Motorola Central teams in case of system defects. Ensure timely delivery of upgrades and fixes.

• Conducting Drive test using Agilent & Wifta and Kannon Proxy tool of integrated Wimax sites to verify coverage / quality and throughput issues of the integrated entity.

• Work with RF and product teams to tune Wimax system parameters to optimize Wimax network and to define Wimax KPI's for Network entry, Average sector throughput, RF utilization, Frame erasure rate, Modulation and coding schemes, Uplink interference.

• Identifying worst cells on the basis of stats (Network entry, Initial/periodic ranging, RF utilization, MCS utilization, Throughput etc.) and giving recommendations.

• E2E QoS planning and testing to introduce new differentiated services that add significant value to the customer’s portfolio.

• Leading the development of ASN/CSN System Monitoring Tools proved useful in daily monitoring tasks and isolating network issues. The tools are now incorporated in Motorola Official NMS Solution.

• Part of a technically complex initiative to improve network recovery rates post-outage that is yielding concrete results, and has led to identification of configuration and software modifications spanning from core equipment to end user devices. Lessons learnt and modifications made are now reference models other Motorola networks benefit from.

• E2E network design and processes audit to identify areas of improvement, and subsequently drive low level solutions and implementation to close the pinpointed gaps.

• Ericsson AAA and BRAS capacity dimensioning according to the forecasted subscriber and data traffic.

• Managing, planning and performing integration and upgrade of Wi-Tribe Core network along with testing to meet customer requirements.

• Incorporate into tasks personal areas of expertise in WiMAX, IP routing and switching, E2E QoS, RADIUS authentication and billing, DHCP, provisioning systems and integration with 3PV vendors like Cisco, Dragonwave, Oracle etc.

• Maintaining the Low Level Design document for the network.

• Planning and implementation of change requests of major or minor nature.

• Creating polished internal and customer level documentation, and delivering presentations to managerial and technical audiences on system capability, network design and high importance problem identification and resolution.

• Prime technical interface in south region between the customer and Motorola/Ericsson product teams to ensure time effective delivery of necessary services to the customer.

• Effectively utilizing Lab setup to reproduce problems and troubleshooting. Also include testing new software loads, features, stress testing and MOP validation

• API Call testing and validation on SOAP interface for integration of Ericsson NetOP PM and Motorola EMS to the 3PV.

• Played a key role in the setup and establishment of Voice Wholesale division.

•Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of multiple protocols such as Radius, DHCP,DNS, EAP, HTTP,SOAP, SNMP, VOIP and SIP.

• Extensive experience on the Motorola Wi4 WiMAX solution. Including Access Point (AP), Motorola CAP-C, Ericsson Redback SE400/1200 BRAS, and Sun Solaris based EMS.

• Integration and support experience of WiMAX ASN/CSN over IP/MPLS aggregation and backbone as well as 3PV integration for billing and provisioning over industry standard interfaces like RADIUS and SOAP.

• Experience in integration, design and support of Ericsson Redback Netop Policy Manger carrier grade OSS/BSS solution.

• Excellent holistic and low level troubleshooting skills of WiMAX and TCP/IP, leveraging theoretical and practical knowledge of packet and protocol level behavior.

• Low level debug and trouble shooting skills in investigating WiMAX RF and interference issues.

•Increased Network entry success rate from 70% to more than 85 %.

•Worked with Radio Regulatory authority and have a key role in identifying interference source that affected 40% of WiTribe Wimax Network in South Region.

•Involved in trials of Simple IP mobility testing, impact analysis of changing TDD radio and introduction of 4th carrier frequency utilizing the guard band for WiTribe Market.

• Strong and capable knowledge of several software platforms like Solaris and Unix.

• Implementation and support experience of VOIP, L2TPv3, GRE, L2/L3 VPN and IP-QoS services over Motorola Wi4 WiMAX Solution.

• Proven integration and support experience with IP networking hardware such as ASNGWs, routers, switches, CSN servers…

• Development of per-user (Clips/mac based) performance measurement tools for Ericsson Redback BRAS and Ericsson Netop PM Servers.

• Developed a complete WiMAX CSN Monitoring system using shell scripts and open solutions like MRTG and Nagios.

• Hands on experience on RSM and MSXs for Nextone(SBC) product which involves End point Configuration both for H323/SIP carriers, creating new plans for Routing/Bindings, Capturing Traces for SIP and H323 calls, Codces, SIP/H323 parameters handling and LCR management etc..
