Research/
Experience
Columbia University, New York, NY June-August 2009
Fu School of Engineering and Applied Science
Lab Assistant, “Solar Concentrator Project”
• Studied the effect of a concave mirror (solar concentrator) on an evacuated glass tube designed to harness the sun’s energy
• Constructed heat exchanger and Lab View program to determine heat transfer and efficiency of system with and without concentrator
• Used data to analyze if the concentrator was cost effective
Fordham University, Fordham College New York, NY June-August 2008
Lab Assistant
• Studied the effect of Ultraviolet Radiation on light sensitive materials
• Assisted in perusing goal to develop an “indicator” to inform a person when he/she was in danger of too much sun exposure.
Fordham University, Fordham College New York, NY June-August 2007
Lab Assistant, "Color Changing and Lasing Stretchable Cholesteric Films"
• Applied lasing to different liquid crystals to study the frequencies of light absorbed and reflected, while the crystals were under tension
• Participated in a Research Symposium at Fordham University, which involved communicating the theory of the project to attendees that came over to my poster
• Publication: Peter V. Shibaev, Pierre Rivera, Dashiell Teter, Salvatore Marsico, Martin Sanzari, Veena Ramakrishnan, and Eckhard Hanelt, "Color changing and lasing stretchable cholesteric films," Opt. Express 16, 2965-2970 (2008)
