COURSEWORK AND RELATED PROJECTS

RF and Microwave Systems Engineering

• RF transceiver design of a 3G WCDMA cellular handset using AWR (VSS)

• Proposed and created the design of a RF transceiver system (including amplifiers/mixers/LO/filters) that uses heterodyne architecture with the system level specifications identified according to the 3GPP standard

• RF propagation, noise and distortion, cascaded analysis of transmitter and receiver

Introduction to Wireless Communications Systems

• Simulation of a simplified IEEE 802.11 a/g Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)

• Compared the performance of OFDM receiver, with and without noise and multipath effect and determined them for different modulation schemes such as QPSK, 8-PSK and 16-QAM

Microwave Design Measurements Lab

• Simulated and designed microwave components such as filters, directional couplers, power dividers, switches, amplifiers and oscillators with the RF CAD tools Sonnet and AWR (Microwave Office)

• Tested the fabricated circuits to compare the performance with that of the simulation using Vector Network Analyzer (Agilent), power meter, signal generator and other electronic instruments

• Realized the simulation of microstrip patch antenna and driver amplifier (balanced amplifier) according to the specifications provided using a low noise pHEMT transistor NEC32584C.

RF and Microwave Circuits

• Analyzed and designed RF and microwave circuits

• Circuit design involved impedance matching, network theory, S-parameters, transmission line media (waveguide, coaxial, microstrip, stripline, coplanar waveguide, etc.) and passive component design (power dividers, couplers, switches, attenuators, phase shifters, etc.)
