I am a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am eager to gather new skills and build existing ones. I have a deep and passionate interest in science and am seeking to eventually obtain a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I am experienced in laboratory work and am readily equipped to learn new techniques. I am hardworking, patient and determined in all work that I do.

Biochemistry Research Trainee Program

I worked in Professor Min-Hao Kuo’s laboratory, performing experiments relating to the post-translational modification of proteins.

• Performed basic laboratory duties such as autoclaving and mixing up chemicals.

• Worked with E. coli – growth, transformation and induction.

• Conducted DNA gel electrophoresis and SDS-PAGE experiments.

• Performed solubility and purification experiments with proteins harvested from E. coli.

• Worked with enzymatic digestion of proteins and devised lab protocol based on experience.

• Extensive experience with Western Blotting, including rigourous troubleshooting and optimization

• Experience with lab management tasks, such as purchasing items for research.

• Research is still in progress. A paper with my name on it is forthcoming.

Research Assistant

I worked in Professor Brad Upham's toxicology laboratory conducting experiments in the field of environmental toxicology.

• Worked with rat liver cells, learning how to culture and care for them.

• Conducted experiments exposing cells to various chemicals, exercised assays to test the exact degree of cell-cell communication through gap junctions.

• Learned good lab notebook-keeping practices.

• Interpreted laboratory data and produced workable numbers. Used Image J to quantify culture image data.

Summer 2008 Macomb YMCA

Child Care Personnel

I worked in child care, supervising children for several hours until their parents arrived to pick them up from day camp.

• Monitored and was responsible for up to 20 children (of ages varying from 5 to 12) at once.

• Interacted with parents and dealt with children, solving any problems that came up.
