PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
American Red Cross Portland, Oregon 2001-06/12
Collections Operations Manager (2008–June2012)
Responsibility for Portland district Mobile Unit Assistants and Portland Metro
Territory field operations . (Blood drives)
Instrumental in upgrade of operations fleet. Selected vehicles from dealerships
and oversaw operations specific modifications.
Implemented significant cost saving measures with supplemental equipment kits.
This allowed operations to perform with minimal equipment allocations, then
“supplemented” for peak needs.
Started a department specific safety committee. This dramatically improved
incident reporting and established a process for effective root cause analysis.
Developed the first effective recognition program for the collections department.
Staff were genuinely excited about it and very motivated to excel.
Began a staff vehicle (non-commercial) vehicle pre-trip and post-trip program.
Vehicle maintenance/fueling became routine, solving a persistent operational
concern.
Collections Operations Support Supervisor (2004-2008)
Responsibilities for supervision of Mobile Unit Assistants, Central Support Services,
and electronic Blood donor record equipment functions.
Dramatically improved DOT regulatory compliance with commercial vehicle
operators. Provided accountability with operators to “prove” compliance each
and every day.
Revamped load plans to significantly improve on time operational performance
and all but eliminate service defects.
Built an excellent team of commercial vehicle operators with direct involvement
with the screening and selection through the human resources process.
Mobile Unit Assistant/Phlebotomist (2001-2004)
Effectively set up blood drives. Was the first and last contact with sponsors. Set
the standard for on time performance.
Learned phlebotomy (as did all who worked on blood drives) and interacted with
blood donors cheerfully. I became an often requested phlebotomist.
United Parcel Service-Based out of Portland, Oregon-Varied assignments
1976-2001
Operations Manager (Center Manager) 1990-2001. I was responsible for all
aspects of operations with assigned centers. Assignments included all of the
northern half of the state of Oregon and SW Washington.
Most of my assignments were to underperforming operations. Productivity was
routinely improved through effective staffing, job set ups, clear communication
of expectations, and accountability. All operations improved markedly in the 6
month to 1 year time periods.
Improved the SW Washington OSHA recordable frequencies from 40.0 to 8.0,
accomplishing the purpose of this assignment.
Became certified to “train the trainer” with safe work methods and vehicle
operations.
Operations Supervisor 1984-1990. This role was both inside (warehouse)
operations and “on road” supervision and training of drivers. Training very much
focused on safety aspects, both with work methods and driving.
Effectively trained approximately 50 delivery drivers.
Monitored performance and provided accountability for both productivity and safe
work.
UPS Delivery Driver 1981-1984. I developed the ability to maintain positive
customer relationships on a direct, face to face basis. This job is still very much a
part of who I am today.
Administrative Assistant 1976-1981. Processed damage claims, tracked railroad
movements, scheduled freight on airlines, and produced various operations
reports.
