OBJECTIVE I hope to be able to use my knowledge of databases (physical and logical), along with my strong network administration skills, to help improve performance, security, and accessibility for my employer's data and applications.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
I am currently a SQL Server DBA, well versed in T-SQL, DTS/SSIS package design and implementation, database design, management and support. I have a strong network administration and desktop support background (seven years) that makes me a versatile addition to any company. In addition to my DBA responsibilities, I attend to daily backups (to tape and disk), and help with system administration tasks when necessary.
EXPERIENCE
Database Administrator III – 3/2006 - Present
My day to day responsibilities include managing over 100 production databases (users, physical space and files, performance, etc…) ranging in size from 1 to 500GB, supporting fifteen developers and all the development databases, and reviewing any database changes proposed or written by the developers. In addition, I am also responsible for all database backups (using Quest Litespeed and Symantec Backup Exec).
I am responsible for the ongoing task of archiving old data, which is done through a series of stored procedures, DTS packages, and SSIS packages that I designed, wrote, and implemented. Prior to my starting at GDSX, there was no archiving in place. Now, each database is archived nightly, and the process is fully automated, with no downtime necessary.
Past projects include the following:
• Wrote custom DTS packages for a client. The packages check an FTP site, download and extract XML files, and import the data into their database. I later converted this process to SSIS for another Client.
• Installed SQL 2005 and migrated all development and production databases from the SQL Server 2000 machine to the SQL Server 2005 machine.
• Oversaw the upgrade of a major client from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005
• Automated the new database creation process to take less than ten minutes, where it took up to two hours before automation.
• Created procedures and documentation to streamline the way data is updated by developers when necessary.
Each day, to perform all my duties, I use and am very familiar with the following software:
• Microsoft SQL Management Studio
• Quest Litespeed for SQL Servers
• Symantec Backup Exec
• Microsoft Visual Source Safe
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Windows Server 2003 (including performance monitors, active directory, and terminal services manager)
Network Administrator – 2/2005-3/2006 – Adaptive Imaging Solutions
My duties range from basic desktop support to full network and user management.
I am responsible for over 100 desktop systems that are used as test machines, development, basic Office use, and advanced document scanning. I also support the owner's personal computers and wireless network.
As a network administrator I am responsible for creating and managing Active Directory users and Exchange mailboxes. I also manage Symantec Antivirus 10 from our servers, and remotely manage all the desktops that have the client installed. I use Backup Exec to backup several servers each night. I am also responsible for supporting a number of VPN and FTP users.
I also setup, configured, and maintain our two FreeBSD DNS servers.
In addition to the desktop and server support I provide, I support a system of over 50 video cameras in classrooms at three day care locations. Parents are able to view the video online at the day care website. I troubleshoot wiring problems, camera problems, and networking problems.
PC Support Technician - 12/1999 – 1/2005 - Coppell ISD Coppell, TX
I was responsible for maintaining and updating all the computers at five elementary schools and one middle school. I also assisted the network administrator in loading applications on the network, user administration, printer administration, and troubleshooting basic network problems. In the past I have managed a team of four employees during the summer to upgrade hardware, software, and network clients on the computers at Coppell High School (700 PCs). I also setup the current printing system in the district through Novell workstation policies.
I worked directly with one technology specialist at each campus, and after receiving jobs via that person, work with the teachers, principals, administration, and colleagues in the technology department to solve problems. I am an excellent communicator and teacher, and enjoy working with end users to make them feel more comfortable with technology.
I have been recognized by the Superintendent five times, and have received Employee of the Quarter once.
