Objective:
Seeking a position where I can use and develop my technical skills.
Experience:
7/1999 – 3/2011 EG Controls, Inc., Jacksonville, FL
Systems Engineer
EG Controls is a Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) designing and manufacturing control panels. There I was entrusted to design all the more expensive, large, and complex control panels. Defined and selected all components necessary to provide a complete functioning system. Utilized computer database, manufacturer’s catalogs and internet sites, suppliers, and other resources to generate detail quotes and Bill-of-Material lists for projects defined by in-house and customer generated drawings, specifications, and other written and verbal communications. Preparation of complete control schematics, and panel layout submittal and production drawings, and Bill-of-Material lists for purchasing of parts and manufacturing of control panels. Visited customer sites to define project scope, and to review design and process control schemes. Performed control system testing, programming, start-up, and calibration. Provided technical trouble shooting and start-up assistance in person and over the telephone. Components and instruments encountered or used on a regular bases include: Multi-meters, calibrators, touch screens (HIMs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), solid-state starters, micro-processor based controllers, modems, radios, DC power supplies, power monitoring equipment, motor protection relays, pressure transducers and transmitters, process meters and controllers, chart recorders, pneumatic systems, control relays and timers, circuit breakers, NEMA starters, fuses, disconnect switches, control power transformers, uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), and etc. Designs done according to the National Electrical Code (NEC), and UL 508A standard.
1998 – 1999 BIOTEN, Knoxville, TN
Instrumentation and Control Design Engineer
Designed and developed control systems for new and existing power generation systems using relay logic, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor starters, load cells, scale systems, belt weighters, national gas systems, pressure regulators, valves, temperature sensors, level sensors, and other control components. Performed installation and maintenance for a 6500 KW generator, gas turbine generator, chain conveyors, pulverizers, wood chippers, and their associated power and control systems. Generated detail drawings using AutoCAD, including P&ID diagrams, process flow diagrams, control wiring schematic diagrams, interconnection panel wiring details, and conduit plans. Assisted as a plant operator. Designs done to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
1987 – 1998 Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, Oak Ridge, TN
Plant Engineer
Provided electrical engineering support to three large Department of Energy (DOE) defense production and storage plants as part of a multi-engineering discipline team. Provided oversight and review of designs done by consultants and architect engineering firms. Generation of job specific electrical specifications. Provided electrical power and control designs for the modification and upgrade of existing plant facilities, and construction of new facilities. Designed new and modified existing indoor and outdoor utilities including utility power, life safety and communication networks. Designed indoor plant power distribution systems, outdoor overhead and underground power distribution systems up to 13,800 volts. Designed and programmed PLC based control systems. Used CAD program to generate electrical control schematics and power plans. Traced existing facility control and power system wiring to generate as-built drawings. Performed electrical walk-downs and inspections of office, storage and production areas for compliance with OSHA safety standards. Government security clearance. Used the National Electrical Code (NEC) for in-house designs and review of contractor designs.
