Development of automatic long-term storage and precision dispensing system for biologic solution (Phase II, Funded by MIPS - Maryland Industry Partnerships, biomedical application)
-Created 3D system assembly in ProE and 2D drawings for machining (bladder holder, dispensing head, and fixtures).
-Designed, soldered, and debugged IO circuit; selected and integrated electro-mechanical components including DC/stepper motors, pneumatic cylinder, drivers, serial multiplexer etc.
-Implemented a meniscus sensor for detecting liquid level including mechanical fixture design and optical sensor control through serial communication.
-Developed system automation/motion control by programming and debugging C code in Silicon Labs microcontroller.
-Developed a single cycle of the dispensing process to preliminarily evaluate dispensing resolution and performance of impact mechanism.
Development of high speed magnetostrictive rod actuator and thin film mirror deflector
(Funded by SESI, Inc. and NASA, Laser Tuning and LIDAR applications)
-Prepared regular meeting and presentation, created detailed specification and recommended modification of product from SESI's requirement.
-Designed magnetostrictive rod actuator in 3D in Solidworks and generated 2D drawings in AutoCAD for machining.
-Designed and fabricated thin film mirror deflector by MEMS procedures (photolithography, wafer wet etching, and metal deposition) in cleanroom.
-Performed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on structural and thermal response of the deflector.
-Developed a high speed vibration measurement system using optical deflection method (LabVIEW IMAQ, NI frame grabber, and CCD camera).
-Developed analytical models for material characterization (Matlab).
-Designed experiment; analyzed collected test data to characterize material.
Development of an automatic stride length measuring device “TREADTRAC”
(Funded by MIPS, Stroke Rehabilitation application)
-Investigated the feasibility and determined the achievable goal by comparing available state of the art technologies from patents and published papers.
-Created concept design including methodologies, hardware components, software algorithm, and mechatronic interface; prepared technical part of proposal.
-Assisted in components evaluation, methodologies validation, and PCB design.
Investigation of the contribution of cyclic growth to the failure of restored teeth.
Investigation of hydroxyapatite waterjet peening on metal orthopaedic implants.
