GIS Analyst (NCCU Intern) November 2009–May 2010

Storm Water Division, City of Durham, NC

The City of Durham Storm Water Division, NC is part of the Public Works Department whose work is to maintain storm drains and ensure that clean storm water channels into the main stream. This is done by billing property owners based on the area of impervious surfaces on their property. Satellite imagery which captures the entire City of Durham within their jurisdiction was used from which impervious surfaces was obtained.

As a member and leader of the team, I was mainly involved in creating and digitizing impervious surfaces shape files from satellite imagery, attributing addresses and verifying to make sure that the address matches the individual properties impervious surface layers. I also provided technical guidance to the team members and preparation of reports on project reports, analyzed critical problems and resolved issues as and when required.

Supervising Geomatic Engineer December 2005-September 2007

Tripod Data Consult, Tema, Ghana

Tripod Data Consult provides complete cadastral and engineering survey solution for all real estate and using Total Stations and GPS. As a Geomatic Engineer and a team member, I carried out survey works such as Establishment of control stations using G.P.S and Total station, leveling, detailing of existing structures, layout design-zoning, demarcation of land, Preparation of site plans, Carrying topographic survey on parcel of land and generating contours with spot heights and calculating volumes using AutoCAD and Surfer software. I also provided onsite solution to numerous problems, storage and maintenance of data, training for interns, preparation of reports and presentations.

Assistant Geomatic Engineer July 2004 – December 2005

Right after my Bachelors, I was employed by this organization, the largest real estate company in the country for about a year. During this period I underwent some training in some Remote Sensing, GIS and CAD software such as ERDAS, AutoCAD and GIS products such ARC/INFO, ARCVIEW. While I was under training I developed spatial databases using AutoCAD, GPS as well as GIS Cadastral and Engineering Survey related projects. I had a thorough experience in this field. After eight months, I was awarded a couple of contracts to produce topographical map and site plans on some of their acquired lands. I produced reports and presentations of my works to managements of the company on biweekly bases.
