M.Phil., CHEMISTRY
“INHIBITION CHARACTER OF SOME SEMICARBAZONE DERIVATIVES AND ITS SYNERGISITIC EFFECT IN PRESENCE OF HALIDE IONS AND METAL IONS ON MILD STEEL IN 1 N H2SO4”, project work done at P.S.G.R.Krishnammal College for Women, COIMBATORE during 1st September 2006 to 31st September 2007.
ABSTRACT
The present dissertation deals with the corrosion inhibition behavior of semicarbazone of substituted piperidin-4-ones on mild steel in acidic medium. The inhibitive effect of semicarbazone of various substituted piperidin-4-one on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 N H2SO4 has been studied by weight loss and electrochemical methods (potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance). The electrochemical parameters such as Icorr, Ecorr, Cdl and Rt for mild steel in acidic solution with and without inhibitor were calculated. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate, activation energy and free energy of adsorption were also calculated. The synergistic effect has been studied by weight loss and electrochemical methods.
