Invited to participate as product design/product development advocate for various inventions created by both students and professors which may target specific companies for interest to manufacture and in return, receive licensing fees to help fund future department research. Definition of my role is continuous while primarily adding design to the business economics and engineering expertise currently established.
Apriori, Boise, Idaho

Industrial Design Consultant
The basic engineering concept: “being able to engage in play with one’s pet(s) from any location in the world through pet-owner’s computer linking up with Apriori software and cameras at the pet site”. This product (prototype) is currently being beta tested at the Idaho Humane Society’s cat condo here in Boise.
* Created sketches for the “Pet Companion” product to communicate concepts that embraced aesthetic appeal, compactness, modularity and manufacturability.
* Participated in creative/brainstorming sessions to develop potential future market scenarios.
PowerCordz, Boise, Idaho 2/2009 – present
Industrial Design Consultant and Illustrator
Design Consultant on design, aesthetics, usability, materials and manufacturing considerations for current and future products. Their current line of high performance cycling cables not only reduces weight, but also improves reliability and longevity.
* Created illustrations for their current packaging/installation guide to improve customer experience by reducing image content (clutter) from previous photos thereby simplifying tasks.

Hewlett Packard Company, Boise, Idaho 8/1998–10/2008
Industrial Design Engineer
Designed and developed state-of-the-art color LaserJet printers, mfps/copiers and optional accessories for both consumer and enterprise applications by collaborating with foreign and domestic partners in scientific research, engineering, marketing, management and manufacturing.
* Managed product graphics, directed appearance mock-ups, prepared presentations to team members then initiated planned visits and regular video-conferencing design reviews with international team members to obtain design resolution and manufacturing agreements.
* Co-managed a new design language to strengthen the company’s most critical sub-brand (LaserJet) while simultaneously designing several new-generation printers and desk-top multi-function printers (mfps) that would be among the first to share the new appearance.
* Initiated and managed two creative design project collaborations between a top US design college and the company to investigate the future of personal printing to share with the research & development community and to stimulate creativity and innovation at all levels.
* Defined industrial design and customer experience for high-end color printer products in the LaserJet business to help position them as number one in the global marketplace.
* Played integral role with supply-chain management in determining potential product component cost reductions that saved the company $2.3M annually.

Project Industrial Designer/Product Design Coordination
Provided industrial design expertise and usability leadership for the organization during a critical period while the parent company was establishing organizational roles and research processes for this group.
* Managed external design consultants towards specific goals and collaborated with engineering, market planning and management to establish the organization’s first design guidelines that maximized family appearance, brand and reduced cost by sharing common parts.
* Managed all external industrial design resources in the U.S.A. and Europe to establish ground-breaking medical device aesthetics, usability and safety to secure a leadership position in the global marketplace and greatly increased revenue.
* Created and led design improvements on the IR-9500 Analyzer that greatly improved appearance, usability, and safety and won Best-of-Show at the Structural Plastics Conference.
* Awarded several design patents for blood analyzers that are still producing healthy revenues.
Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, New York 2/1982–12/1994
Staff Industrial Designer / Senior Industrial Designer / Project Industrial Designer
Created initial product concept sketches, mock-ups, appearance models and tooling release drawings for a wide range of products and equipment in professional photofinishing, commercial printing, office, consumer and clinical diagnostic markets. Coordinated all product graphics, human factors and packaging design for projects I was responsible for. I worked simultaneously on multiple projects.
* Managed and organized industrial design, human factors, graphic design and packaging groups’ input that resulted in the company’s first Worldwide Business and Imaging Equipment Guidelines to reduce development cost and greatly improve brand recognition.
* Industrial designer with a small skunk-works team which received an EMMY Award for creating the world’s first Still Video Digital Transceiver (SVDT) which transmitted worldwide in 1989, within minutes, the powerful image of a man halting Chinese army tanks at Tiananmen Square, China.
