Career Summary
My professional goals are to stimulate significant corporate success through my skills as a database developer, administrator, analyst and as a highly effective team communicator and leader. I have extensive database developer/architect/analyst experience. My skills include strong database administrator (DBA) experience. I’ve managed high volume, federated, multi-terabyte platforms as a DBA and have authored numerous DBA tools to monitor SQL Servers. My 20 years in IT have become grounded largely on the Microsoft SQL Server platform since 1996. Significant innovations include many data modeling projects, transactional architecture, search engines, rating engines, integration projects and high volume analysis engines. I can also apply skills in business systems analysis, statistical analysis, business intelligence, reporting, OLAP, project management/SDLC and software development team management with strong understanding of project methodology, e-commerce and CRM. Recent development work has been focused on .NET(C#) /SQL Server 2000/5 applications.
My success in leadership roles has come from a passion to emphasize fruitful collaboration and constructive communication. My industry exposure includes research, e-commerce, media, software, insurance, legal, HR (benefits), health care, retail, and telecommunication. Prior to my IT career, my analysis skills were strongly enhanced through 6 years in the actuarial profession along with my academic background in math and statistics. Prior to that, my 7 years in the retail industry were highly beneficial to my communications, management and marketing skills.

Professional Experience

2001 Western Avenue, Suite 430; Seattle WA 98121
Senior Database Developer/Architect/DBA – Initial developer hired in the raw startup stage by the former Getty Images CTO. Responsible for architecture and process development of primary internal databases, integrating internal applications with the LexisNexis legal workflow Time Matters application where I served as a primary application administrator. Served both as database developer/architect (60%) and a production DBA(40%) for the first year and 5 months. Hiring a DBA allowed me to focus 100% on development for the next 6 months. I returned to DBA work in the last few months.
Primary accomplishments include modeling data structures and stored procedure development on several internal databases mission critical to the primary profit center of the company. Development efforts included creating a debtor rating engine, a bankruptcy detection engine, integrating all USA bankruptcy court activity to our legal workflow and several integration processes to synchronize data between systems. As a DBA, my focus was production stability (maintenance plans, alerts, monitoring, security, etc.).

Editorial Search Lead Developer/Senior Software Engineer – Responsible for technical development on Getty Images Editorial website. Managed projects and developers on numerous Editorial website enhancements a well as being personally responsible for the search engine, itself. Promoted in July 2004 to Editorial Search Lead developer, managing a 5 person development team. My passions at Getty Images at first focused on enhancing the editorial search engine to accommodate a very rapidly rising area of Getty’s business operations. Over the last year my energies have broadened technically to supporting other enterprise systems along with application and web code support, while maintaining focus on improving the query performance of the search engine that supports Getty Image’s distribution of news images worldwide. Optimization efforts on the search engine led to a threefold improvement in performance this year along with comprehensive stabilization of the Editorial platform. I led a database developers group of a dozen participants. This group established development standards, provided code and design review. The weekly meetings included presentation of development topics. I presented the large majority of those.
While at Getty Images, I committed to expanding my technical breadth beyond my skills on the SQL Server platform through formal and informal continuing education in .NET web development. I did coursework at the UW in C#, passing with a final exam score of 98% and then took on maintenance level C# development tasks. Even more significant was the interaction and collaboration I had with the database administration team, working closely with them to enhance production monitoring and deployment processes. My work on the search engine required constant production tracing and monitoring which was done in close collaboration with my DBA colleagues.

SQL Server DBA/Research Analyst Sited at Microsoft Research, Community Technologies Group - Database Administrator for a 4.5 terabyte database farm recording all Internet Usenet communication since mid 1999. Maintained and developed core processes to support datamarts for four key research websites, including Netscan at http://netscan.research.microsoft.com. Among several development projects, created all database processes and objects for a fifth site which extends Netscan technology into non-Usenet web based discussion forums, like the ASP.Net discussion board and others.
Served as a primary research analyst, developing reporting infrastructure and assisting in statistical research of Internet conversation metrics. This involved analysis of newsgroups/forums, authors, and conversational threads and a variety of internally published reports. Created the group’s new quarterly report comprehensively documenting top newsgroups, threads and authors conversing about and supporting Microsoft products. My academic background in statistics helped me develop many key code scripts to handle analysis of data sets much too large for standard statistical packages, like SPSS.
