I went to work at Impact Services, in Oakridge, TN in 2007. I worked as a Health Physics Tech. My responsibilities were to check any materials entering or exiting the site for radiological or hazardous dangers. Employment at Impact Services taught me a lot of responsibility and again gave me more experience in the supervision of the employees, and being a self motivated employee. The reason for leaving Impact Services was due to a lay off when the plant in Oakridge closed. While I was employed at Impact, I learned many decon techniques, and did sort and segregation of contaminate waste, also characterization of waste such as environmental waste, to be disposed of. I operated man lifts, and fork trucks to move large boxes of waste. I worked in full dress out, Many times wearing a full face respirator. We did grit blasting on many decon jobs; therefore I know how to use a sand and grit blaster. I did RAD surveys’, daily surveys’, weekly surveys’, source checks of instruments, used the protein machine to check smears of contamination, checked and changed the air sample in work areas, set up boundaries for RAD work to be done. My main objective of the job was to insure every one stayed safe from any dangers of hazardous and environmental waste, by maintaining a safe work place, and by practicing safe work procedures’.

I worked in New York for 6 months, training and obtaining the certifications needed to allow me to work in the field as a Health Physics tech. My job there was to insure that the site had no hazardous waste on site. The employment with Tim, taught me a lot of responsibility in being able to work alone and to be a very self starting, motivated person. I took this experience with me to my next job, in Oakridge, TN.

I worked as a Regional Supervisor. I was responsible for overseeing operations in four states. I was responsible for maintaining staff and to insure the fleet of over one hundred staff and vans. Our service was to transport employees of N/F railroad to and from their points of destination. This job allowed me to obtain experience in supervision over employees. I left this job due to disagreements with work practices that I felt was unsafe and that the company would not allow me to change, such as unsafe vans for the drivers to transport workers in.
