SUMMARY
Twenty-seven years of geologic experience in the Rocky Mountains. Skilled in project management, coal quality and resource assessment studies, coalbed methane mapping and GIS digital compilations, Federal grant acquisitions and oversight of project development and contract management. Highly motivated, results driven individual with strong written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION
University of California, Santa Barbara, CA December 1982
• Bachelor of Arts – Geological Sciences, (mainly geophysics courses)
• Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado at Boulder-
Continuing Education Graduate course work in Hydrogeology and Stratigraphy
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) 1989 to Present
PHYSICAL SCIENTIST III (COAL GEOLOGIST), Denver, CO
• Directly responsible for the operation of CGS’s Federal and State coal grants for research purposes. Duties include providing data management, organization and layout of project steps with geologic goals. Responsible for identifying and proposing Colorado coal projects with issues ranging from coal resource evaluations to coalbed methane studies. Specialize in digital surface to subsurface coal bed correlation studies. Using GIS, PETRA, MS Access and Excel to maintain stratigraphic and coal sample databases for the eight coal regions in Colorado. Responsible for annual reports about the Colorado coal industry status regarding economics, production, and reserves. Responsible for mapping fracture patterns related to coal sequences and correlating coal beds in basin-wide studies. Most recent study on trace element chemistry at active Colorado coal mines for hazardous air pollutant characterization. Built detailed stratigraphic coal databases for the Raton Basin, San Juan Basin, Lower White River, Somerset, and Yampa coal fields for Coal Availability in Colorado.
• Earlier studies at the CGS included landslide investigations, environmental characterizations for the State’s 500 underground storage tanks, and geologic mapping on seven geologic quadrangles. Authored over 24 CGS publications: vita available upon request.
Research and Planning, International (RPI) December 1987 to June 1989
GEOLOGIST, Boulder, CO
• Responsible for maintaining stratigraphic databases for basin-wide petroleum studies. Responsible for subsurface stratigraphic correlations on geologic units on three basin projects: Permian Basin (Fusselman study), Powder River Basin (Upper Cretaceous strata), and the Michigan Basin (Dundee Fm).
Colorado Department of Transportation May 1986 to November 1987
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER, Denver, CO
• Worked on geotechnical field team in Glenwood Canyon investigating foundation borings for I-70. Also worked on landslide characterization and instrumentation in Pagosa Springs and Durango, Colorado.
Analex Logging 1984-1986
WELL-SITE GEOLOGIST, Denver, CO
• Responsible for geologic well site consulting and mudlogging onsite. Industry experience in the Rockies in the Williston Basin, Big Horn Basin, Overthrust Belt, Green River Basin, San Rafael Swell and the Paradox Basin, Chama Basin, D-J Basin, Las Animas Arch, and the Permian Basin. Also experienced with several wildcat exploration wells and deep tests in Nevada and Utah. Duties included reading and maintaining sophisticated surface sensors and gas chromatograph instrumentation for oil and gas shows, core points and rock descriptions, and well assessment reporting.
