WORK EXPERIENCE:
SIRIUS-XM (STS Consulting – East Brunswick, NJ)
Validation Tester Jan 2010 – present
• Consulted for SIRIUS-XM – Designed and executed manual tests for various features of the Subscriber Management System. Features included Order Management, Gift Card processing, Pricing, and Integration of XM software with Sirius software. This is a WEB based application with a UNIX Oracle backend. Heavy use of UNIX, SQL, HP QC, EXCEL.
Schering Plough (Matrix Consulting – Rochelle Park, NJ)
Validation Tester June 2009 – Sep2009
• Consulted for Schering Plough – Developed and executed Validation tests for a large database conversion (ETL). The databases support several Pharmaceutical Protocol/Study applications. Heavy use of SQL, UNIX, Excel, and WORD. (3 month assignment)
Cherokee Pharmaceuticals (STS Consulting – East Brunswick, NJ)
QA/Validation Tester May 2008 – Mar 2009
• Consulted for Cherokee Pharmaceuticals – Developed configuration specifications and Installation/Operational Qualification (Validation) tests to support the re-creation of the IT Infrastructure needed when Merck sold this manufacturing facility to Cherokee. Also tested and updated application user manuals for EPICOR Purchasing/Ordering/Invoicing/Accounts Payable and Receivable applications. Project ended due to funding issues. (Project ended in Mar 2009)
Verizon Data Systems (STS Consulting – East Brunswick, NJ)
QA Tester Dec 2002 – Mar 2008
• Consulted for Verizon – Analyzed and reviewed requirements. Designed and executed sets of functional and end-to-end test cases for 6 WEB based Provisioning Support applications with a UNIX/Oracle backend and interfaces with over 16 external systems. The test cases satisfied full-coverage criteria and were very effective in identifying defects. Personally identified many problems during the Requirements Review process, when they were relatively inexpensive to fix. Most testcases were made repeatable and automated. Achieved particularly difficult testcase implementations by writing UNIX and SQL tools. Developed methods and tools for documenting testcases and tracking the development and execution status of these testcases. Became recognized expert in applications tested and often stepped out of test role to provide support to Requirements and Product Support groups and Users. Mentored and provided leadership to 4 other testers. Contributed significantly to the establishment of day to day processes that support the Software Development Life Cycle for the overall project. Key negotiator with Development team, half of whom were Offshore.
Time Warner Cable (Business Edge Solutions – East Brunswick, NJ)
QA Tester May 2002 – Nov 2002
• Consulted for Time Warner Cable - designed and executed a set of functional and end-to-end test cases for a WEB based Installation Scheduling application with a UNIX/Oracle backend. The test cases satisfied full-coverage criteria and were very effective in identifying defects. Several testcases implemented by writing SQL queries and UNIX shells. (Project ended in Nov 2002)
Telcordia/Bellcore/Bell Labs - Piscataway, NJ
Principal Quality Engineer Jan 1994 – Nov 2001
• Developed and implemented Ameritech’s Year 2000 testing and Compliance Certification strategies and processes. Provided customization and implementation support. Served as lead member of Ameritech Y2K Compliance Certification Board (CCRB). This work helped land and implement a contract worth tens of millions of dollars for Telcordia with Ameritech.
• Consulted with SBC - developed and executed test cases for a WEB based Job Tracking application. The test cases were developed from requirements specified as Use Cases.
• Developed the test strategy for SBC’s E-Business organization. In this role also managed the development and implementation of improvements to the organization’s software development process.
• Consulted with BP/AMOCO and supported their preparations for the Year 2000 rollover weekend.
• Tested and coordinated the testing for a variety of applications including a
UNIX/PC based client server test driver/test management application (MYNAH)
UNIX/PC based client server electronic hypertext text browser, and an
MVS based build and source code control system.
Director / District Manager Jan 1992 – Jan 1994
• Managed a group of 12 system testers who tested the Bellcore Application Environment (BAE). BAE is a platform of reusable software services (database, communication, presentation, and environmental C-Language functions) that Bellcore developers can use portably, to develop their applications. Multiple releases of BAE were tested on MVS and several flavors of UNIX using DB2, INFORMIX, ORACLE and X.25 communications.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: While managing System Test organizations
As part of a large, newly formed centralized testing organization, developed testing standards including standard test plans, standard testcase specifications, and standards for use of entrance/exit criteria.
Conceived, developed and implemented the “use/capture” (capture/playback) concept for automated on-line test drivers. Gave presentations on this new concept at test conferences.
Developed automated test tools (drivers) for synchronous (MVS), asynchronous (UNIX), and GUI based applications. These all allow for “use-capture” and are now Telcordia standards for internal use. They are also externally marketed.
Developed tools that automate the testing of MVS based batch runs.
Designed and implemented an architecture for an open system of distributed test drivers to test distributed systems. Published in SIGSOFT of ACM. Now a Telcordia standard.
Introduced concept of user “Guest Testing” during the System Test interval. Guest Testing (sometimes called User Testing or UAT) is now a Telcordia standard.
Started and chaired since inception, a Bellcore-wide open Test Committee (BTE) that continued in full strength for 10 years. The committee met for half a day each month and provided a forum for testers to share experiences and solutions to testing issues. The committee spawned off subcommittees that developed test tools, methods, and standards.
