Generation / Signalization Superintendent

1994 – 1997

Supervisory / Engineering position overseeing 24 employees. Responsible for the operation, modification and maintenance of five hydro electrical generating facilities and operations center, including all equipment, and building maintenance. Orchestrated project design and implementation of governor and exciter upgrades, 900 MHz radio / SCADA system upgrade and hydro turbine overhauls. Also responsible for all electrical distribution metering, and traffic signalization. Controlled budget of $6,100,000

Generation Supervisor

City & Borough of Sitka, AK / Islanded Utility

1990 – 1994

Responsible for the operation, upgrading and maintenance of five electrical generating facilities (four hydro and one stand-by 6.2 MWdiesel plant), switchyards, substations, and dam structures. Oversaw 13 operating and maintenance personnel. Controlled the $3,000,000 budget. Filled in as Electrical Director in his absence. Took lead communication position after a system outage to coordinate the power plants and distribution switching in order to get the island power reinstated. Responsible for several projects, including the upgrade of voltage regulators, governors, and major upgrade on power plant buildings. Worked with consulting engineers and oversaw construction of two small 1.5 meg power plants. Helped to design and managed the installation of new SCADA system.

During this time I had a small side business doing installation, trouble shooting and repair of power systems (generators and controls, land based and marine)

Service Engineer

1987 – 1990

Responsible for all field trouble-shooting & repair, and project start-ups (hands on). The systems involved varied from simple on-engine controls to computer controlled paralleling systems. Applications involved co-generation, emergency systems, transfer switching, marine applications, and islanded power generation systems. Responsible for teaching on-site operations and maintenance classes of generator control systems. Supervised technical staff on the construction of my assigned projects.

Electrician / Electronic Technician

Flow Drill Inc. Kent WA. (research into high pressure oil well drilling)

1986 – 1987

Installation and trouble-shooting of electrical apparatus in lab facilities and field test drilling sites. The scope of the equipment was what would be expected in an oil drilling environment, plus high tech drilling apparatus that developed pressures in excess of forty thousand pounds. Responsible for all generation and instrumentation. Supervised several subordinate technicians.
