Responsible for the efficient, timely coordination of health care services provided to a defined patient population. Responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating cost-effective care, identifying opportunities for improvement and coordinating and/or initiating interventions when opportunities are identified, assuming a leadership/educational role in the interdisciplinary health care team, and advocating for the patient/family at the service-delivery level. My actions resulted in decreased length of stays in complex cases with successful discharges to home (including the eventual discharge if a 2yr hospitalized since birth using the Technology Waiver Program. Additional functions included the training of new staff in computer usage, complex discharges and case management processes. This role continued to include being a resource for all staff Presented rounds to Case Management staff with procedures supporting the expanded use of the Technology Waiver program. Provided support to staff as the designated Cerner Super User. Recognized by my peers in the departments I worked with the "Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award".
1998 – 2002 Comp Management dba Sedgwick Claims RN Case Manager
Arrange for homecare and other medical resources within the guidelines of Virginia State Workers Compensation Regulations. Developed the heart and Lung Workers Compensation policies & procedures, which was adapted for use by multiple municipalities. A result was significant fiscal savings for the cities of Richmond, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach. Successfully represented the employer and company in legal cases before the Worker’s Compensation Boards of several municipalities and regions.
1994-1997 Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield of Central New York Manager Medical Services.
Successfully developed a case management program, including Disease Management for several managed care programs administered by BC/BS. Led the Medical Services Department to NCQA certification. Several policies, procedures and audits developed to exceed our department needs have been utilized by NCQA as teaching tools and examples for managed care certification programs. Departmental audits were instituted to ensure and ensure NCQA and federal/state regulations and mandates were met at greater than 90% results. Assess triage and treat a chemical and industrial work force of over 900 employees with acute work related injuries & illnesses. Update and create medical procedures as needed to maintain evolving medical standards. Educated staff on clinical skills (i.e. use of cauterizing equipment) and employees on routine and occupational health issues. Developed and expanded a medical supply monitoring system from 200+ supplies to over 400 supplies. This program and improved ordering by eliminating outdated medical & pharmaceutical supplies and avoiding duplication of orders.
