Position/Title: Medical Technologist/Point of Care Coordinator

December 2009 – Present

Develops, implements and maintains point of care testing policies and procedures.

Develops and/or approves competency training programs for Point of Care testing.

Coordinates quality control procedures are being maintained and corrective action is performed when appropriate. Coordinates correlation studies and calibrations performances as required and ensures acceptability of instrument/method performance. Selects appropriate proficiency testing programs, reviews results, maintains documentation and verifies corrective action documentation for all point of care testing is completed. Assists testing sites in developing and monitoring patient test management and recording. Assist in the selection of Point of Care testing computer system and instrumentation. Validates new methods and reagents performance prior to implementation. Maintains the point of care testing computer system. Collaborates with and reports point of care activities to Medical Director to include quality control review, keeping her informed of daily operations including changes and/or non-compliant issues. Chairs as required the Point of Care Testing and Laboratory Safety committees Establishes and maintains the Point of Care testing quality assurance plan, laboratory performance improvement plan, and safety program. Reports activities as described. Coordinates PI functions. Compiles and summarizes data. Communicates PI data to laboratory leadership. Responsible for CAP, Joint Commission and other regulatory standards compliance. Maintains records and documentation in compliance with required rules and regulations of regulatory and accrediting agencies and organizations. Coordinates and/or participates in regulatory and accrediting agency inspections and completes responses to accreditation findings. Verifies compliance with accreditation standards through the performance of audits. Completes regulatory applications for approval and submission and maintains CLIA documentation as directed.

Rotate between hematology and chemistry. Point of contact for Blood bank though responsibilities are minimal and include dispensing electronic cross matches, shipment, receipt, and transfer of blood components. Also, maintaining all blood bank procedure manuals and monitoring temperature charts. In addition, monitoring and reviewing daily work center reports and preparing and assigning CAP surveys and entering the data in the CAP website. Others tasks include: QAP, filing monthly reports, maintaining and ordering chemistry inventory, and quarterly reports.
