Required Duties:

• Provide immediate supervision to construction and maintenance projects. Responsible for implementing modifications and additions to the physical plant including maintenance of existing structures as well as custom shop fabrications.

• Primary responsibility, accountability, and authority for all shop services including cabinet shop, paint shop, paint booth, sign shop and field construction crews: carpentry/paint. Other responsibilities include scaffolding and asbestos testing and abatement.

• Make timely, comprehensive reviews of proposed projects, designs for facilities, utilities systems, and equipment operability and maintainability relative to responsibilities. Keep all clients and affected others advised of planned work schedules and how operations will affect their activities.

• Maintain operating and quality-assurance records, such as daily log book and equipment entries, that meet DOE requirements; and shop records and reference data.

• Prepare and assist with operating budgets.

Essential Qualifications

• Must have general knowledge in all phases of building methods/trades, including but not limited to electrical/plumbing, carpentry, concrete & asphalt repair.

• Demonstrated experience in all phases of carpentry, painting and finishing.

• Demonstrated supervisory/management experience with the ability to organize, plan, assign, monitor, and direct the work of crew members.

• Experienced in the coordination of commercial and institutional construction and maintenance projects

• Knowledge of the UBC, relevant codes and safety regulations, as related to field of endeavor.

• Working knowledge of the regulations associated with asbestos abatement (EPA & Cal OSHA); knowledgeable of lead hazards abatement requirements.

• Working Knowledge of OSHA requirements, technical safety and an understanding of biological, chemical and radiation hazards.

• Must be familiar with blueprints and take-offs from blueprints.

• High level of service orientation including the ability to gain cooperation of others.

• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects.

• Experience with computerized reports, record keeping, cost tracking/accounting practices and construction contract formulation. Familiar with Micro-Soft Scheduling, or Suretrak, or Timberline or equal program. Must be able to input schedule and estimate time of performance for work orders.

• Ability to work flexible hours as necessary to provide immediate supervision to construction and maintenance, and support to outside construction contract projects. Must be available on call 24/7 for emergencies.

• Must have a valid California Drivers license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to communicate clearly over telephone and two way radio.

• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, work at heights; work in confined spaces, around rotating equipment, under florescent lights.
