SPRINT, NETWORK OPERATIONS – KS and GA 2004-2008

Director Network Operations

Wireless National Platforms/Cell Site and Access Maintenance

Reporting to the Senior Vice President Network Operations, promoted to Director in 2004 responsible for Wireless National Platforms and moved into a larger Director position in 2006. Directed two geographically diverse Network Control Centers and a staff of 280.

• Championed cost reduction. Managed maintenance contracts in excess of $20M with companies such as IBM, Lucent, Openwave, and Comverse. Negotiated annual contract reductions of $9M.

• Led and gained cross organizational support for a Network Data Integrity initiative which in addition to improving operational performance, resulted in a $7.5M annual circuit cost savings with another $5M still to be realized.

• Integrated and restructured 3 geographically diverse sites using LEAN and Six Sigma principals. This included outsourcing of Legacy system maintenance.

• Implemented a Proactive Circuit Maintenance program, identifying and repairing impaired wireless circuits; preventing over 3000 circuits from failing. This effort was identified as key to bringing Wireless Red markets to Green ahead of schedule.

• Launched multiple products including Business Mobility Platform, Location Based Services, Firmware over the Air, Short Codes, and International Text Messaging.

• Reduced Severity 1 network events for national platforms by 20%, meeting or exceeding service availability targets.

• Expanded volunteer and recognition programs: implemented a Top Gun program to recognize top performers; established a Volunteer Community Relations position and personally served as mentor for the Atlanta Diamond Network and Sprint’s Employee Resource Group for minorities.

• Led Sprint’s effort in becoming a member of the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group.

Manager Network Operations and Maintenance (various Ops Centers), Oct 2000-Apr 2004

Managed various Operations Centers over a 4 year period, including Sprint’s International Network, SS7 Voice Network, and Interactive on Demand Network.

• Set record among all carriers for lowest number of Federal Communications Commission reportable events, two years in a row.

• In one year, reduced SS7 outages for PCS wireless and Mean Time to Repair for SS7 links by 50% each.

• Spearheaded study of synergies and deltas between Local and Long Distance Signaling Management Centers, which expanded into project to consolidate Switching and Signaling Management Centers. This project resulted in a $3.2M discounted cash flow, head count reduction of 30 and a payback period of 4.6 months.

• Reduced unscheduled outages during maintenance activities from 5.96% to 1.2% in spite of 99% increase in scheduled maintenance due to network upgrades.

• Identified and implemented fixes for network stability issues which reduced outages and decreased average time to restore the network by 67%.

Principal Program Manager (Sprint Network Operations, KS), Aug. 1999-Oct 2000

• Managed two major phases of Broadband On-Demand Network Program across five Operations Directorates, overseeing requirement definition, issue/risk resolution, identification of headcount and system support requirements and ensuring schedule milestones were met. Provided daily status briefings to Senior Executives.

• Coordinated team to bring up/field test ION in initial Metropolitan Service Area. Led initial implementation team, doubling installs per day, reducing truck rolls and defects per customer and increasing single truck roll installs by 35% in 45 days.

NAVAL COMPUTER AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS STATION – Silverdale, WA 1997-1999

Responsible for four geographically diverse sites; provided telephone, communications and computer support to all Pacific Northwest Department of Defense organizations.

• Led multi-site company through period of rapid growth and expanded product line. Bottom line responsibility for $12M budget, $23M in property and diverse staff of 250.

• Consolidated communications in the Northwestern United States, providing telephone service for 24,000 users through combination of Navy owned telephone switches and contracted CENTREX service. Increased customer accounts from $4.4M to $7M.

• Partnered with Regional Information Technology Center to implement Department of Defense Pacific Northwest Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). Managed two-year project from design and feasibility analysis through development, staffing and vendor maintenance partnership.
