Optimization of Performance of Power Plant- Shree Power (Beawar and RAS)

Shree Cement Limited, Beawar Jan, 2011- Apr 2011

Finished my Final semester project in Shree Cement Ltd in the Power Plant Division (Shree Power ), the work mainly here is to understand the working of a power plant and then to help in the optimization of the performance of the plant. The plants that I have visited are of 260 MW combined (63 MW in Beawar and 197 MW in RAS). The work was completely based on thermal engineering and also some solar methods for optimization were suggested.

Evaluation of thermal efficiency of annealing furnace - Tarapur Base

Jsw steel limited, Boisar May, 2009 - Jun, 2009

The main work was to evaluate the thermal efficiency of the annealing furnace in the different plants. Here I had to go to visit two of their CSD (Coating Strip Division) sections and calculate the furnace efficiency of the annealing furnace. The work was completely based on thermal engineering.

PROJECTS:

Solar water heater cum Purification system - - Mr. P.K. Nagarajan, Assistant Professor (Senior), School of Mechanical and Building Sciences, VITU. Dec, 2009 - Apr, 2010

Done a design project in the solar water pumping cum purification system. The idea behind this project was to couple two main systems of water source for the rural areas and to run it by solar energy.

Design and Fabrication of a Mechanically Operated Smart Rack – Dr. Anthony Xavier,

School of Mechanical and Building Sciences, VITU. Aug, 2010- Nov, 2010

The idea behind this project is to fabricate a system of moving shelves that can be mounted or placed on a surface to provide better space utilization. The shelves can be rotated around a fixed frame such that we can adjust the level or arrangement of the separated compartments.

Fluidized Bed Gasification Technology - - Dr. R. Sundaresan, Professor,

School of Mechanical and Building Sciences, VITU. Mar, 2008- Dec, 2010

Partly involved in the funded project. Gasification of fossil fuels is currently widely used on industrial scales to generate electricity. However, almost any type of organic material can be used as the raw material for gasification, such as wood, biomass, or even plastic waste. Right now the project is going on.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Academic:

1. Secured the third place in paper presentation on ROLE OF CARPETS, THERMAL INSULATION, and PAINTS IN GREEN BUILDINGS in GRAVITAS `09 – the annual international technical fest of VIT University.

2. Was selected for CLIMA 2010 organised by 10 REHVA WORLD CONGRESS on Sustainable Energy use in Buildings held in Antalya for 9-12 May for oral presentation. For the above mentioned paper. Could not attend due shortage of funds.

3. Was selected for The Sixth International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic & Social Sustainability hosted by University of Cuence Ecuador from 5-7 Jan `10 on “A Self Sustainable Village”. Could not attend due to shortage of funds.

Cultural:

1. Been a regular participant in Dramatics, Debate and anchored shows during high school days.

2. Secured the third place in the cultural event HOMES ALONE held during RIVIERA `10 - an international sports and cultural fest of VIT University.

OTHER INFORMATION:

1. Worked as the Event Co-ordinator for the event BALLISTAE during GRAVITAS `10- the annual international technical fest of VIT University.
