Work History
• 1985 to present • Graphic Designer, Todd Pfaff Design - Working freelance, I provide a variety of graphic art services, including designing signage, print advertising, newsletters, brochures and corporate identity. I am currently using Mac-based Adobe InDesign CS2 for layout and design, Adobe Photoshop CS3 for photo manipulation. I also regularly use Adobe Acrobat and Distiller.
• September 2008 to November 2008 • Graphic Designer, Northern Michigan Review, Inc. - Following a company transfer from the Gaylord Herald Times, my graphic duties continued in creating print advertising, following the client’s needs and guidelines. As a full-time graphic designer, my time was split working in-office 3 days a week, and 2 days remotely from home. Job assignments and finished projects were transmitted to and from the office by email.
• June 1996 to September 2008 • Graphic Designer, Gaylord Herald Times Publications - As a member of the graphic arts division, my duties included the design, layout and production of print advertising, as well as the setup up and preparation of pages for the newspaper and its varied publications for print. In addition, I was also called upon to work in other mediums such as creating exhibits for trade shows.
Graphic Arts Manager - Along with continued duties as a graphic designer, I served in this capacity for 2 years. Duties included coordinating the work of 6 artists, assigning projects in the production of the regular twice weekly newspaper, as well as managing the production of the various special publications, including the monthly Northern Lights and PrimeTimes magazines.
Assistant Production Manager - Along with continued duties as a graphic designer, I served in this capacity for 3 years. I assisted in coordinating the production of the various special publications, including the monthly Northern Lights and PrimeTimes magazines. I also assisted in the production of the regular twice weekly newspaper, as well as other various special publications.
During my tenure at the Gaylord Herald Times, I was regularly recognized by both the National Newspaper Association and the Michigan Press Association for my advertising design work.-
• 1987 to 1997 • Graphic Designer, Crawford County Avalanche - As part of the composition department of this weekly newspaper, I gained experience in design, layout and production of print advertising, page design and preparation of pages for print.

Voluntary History
• Oniyan Wakan Coalition - I've spent the past year as a volunteer for this local Native American health organization collecting information and producing their newsletter for their membership.
• Weyerhaeuser AuSable River International Canoe Marathon, Grayling, MI - As a volunteer for over 18 years for this 125-mile canoe marathon, I began as a race timer, working my way up to co-chairing the Timing Committee. I have also served on the ARICM Board as co-secretary, as well as providing services as a photographer, writing press releases and designing advertising and posters.
• American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, Gaylord, MI - After helping raise money for Relay For Life for three years, I co-chaired this local event for 2 years (1998-1999). In addition, I served a logistics chair, designing the layout and setup of the entire event at the Otsego County Fairgrounds.
Education
• 1984 to 1985 • Advertising Program, Ferris State University - Studied aspects of the advertising industry, including accounting and marketing, but with a focus on design and layout of print advertising.
• 1981 to 1983 • Associates in Applied Sciences - Commercial Art, Northwestern Michigan College - I studied a variety of aspects of graphic design, including ad design and layout, photography, illustration techniques and art history.
