Performed court duties on a full-time basis in compliance with all statutory standards for the operation of Magistrate Courts, as promulgated by the South Carolina Supreme Court, South Carolina Court Administration, and South Carolina Code of Laws. Preside over and adjudicate all criminal/traffic offenses which are subject to the penalty of a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both. Preside over and adjudicate civil cases when the amount in controversy does not exceed $7,500.00 in addition to Landlord/Tenant disputes and Restraining Orders. Issue subpoenas, summons, arrest warrants, bench warrants, search warrants. Conduct preliminary hearings, bond hearings. Conduct judicial duties professionally and in compliance with all applicable policies, rules of evidence and procedure, and with due regard to the rights and interests of all parties, victims, and other affected persons and entities. Manage court responsibilities within budget parameters established by the Chief Magistrate and Beaufort County Council. Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of all reports and data as required by SC Court Administration and Beaufort County Council. Provide clerical support when court is in session. Prepare and maintain journal for the recording of fiscal activities, including deposit, expenditures and submit related reports. Responsible for processing detainees into the Detention Center which included completing criminal background checks using National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer networking system, inventory and secure storage all personal property and monies confiscated from detainees. Notified crime victims on detainees initial bond hearing and disposition. Responsible for presenting accurate charge sheets and personnel documents to Court officers on time for scheduled hearings. Supervised nine (9) line officers. Successfully interfaced with judges, court officers, attorneys, detainees and victims.
March 1996 to December 1996: Transportation/Court Officer, Beaufort County Detention Center, Beaufort, SC.
Compiled daily court records. Arranged for or performed escort duty to ensure detainees arrived promptly in court for first appearance, family court, Magistrate and Circuit Court hearings. Completed all bond paperwork for presentation to Summary Court Judges and provided relevant information during bond hearings.
