PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
INTEGRATED ANTENNA-FILTER ELEMENTS FOR NOVEL PHASED ARRAY ARCHITECTURES
• Acted as a key resource during a DARPA-funded development of a beam-steered phased array operating at V-band (fc=44GHz).
o Proposed a new phased array scheme in which bandpass filters are integrated to antenna elements, reducing the area consumption and maintaining high performace requirements.
o Designed a 16-element antenna array using MEMS technology (fabricated by Rockwell Scientific).
o Designed a wave filter using a frequency selective surface(FSS) structures as a focusing lens.
94 GHZ ON-CHIP PHASED ARRAY
• Put forth the design of a 4 element antenna-filter integrated phased array operating at 94GHz.
o Designed the On-chip phased array using IBM 0.12um SiGe BiCMOS Process.
o Used 2D and 3D EM simulators to verify that the design scheme could be applied for the proposed on-chip phased array system.
COMPACT GAUSSIAN BEAM SYSTEM FOR MILLIMETER-WAVE ARRAY MEASUREMENTS
• Designed and implemented a compact quasi-optical Gaussian beam system for measuring frequency response of millimeter-wave materials, frequency selective surfaces, and antenna arrays.
o Developed wideband millimeter-wave focusing array antennas acting as wave adapters between the coaxial ports of the network analyzer and the wave ports defined between the input and output planes of the device being tested.
o Fabricated the Q-band (36GHz) and V-band (44GHz) wave-lenses utilizing FSS structures.
DESIGN OF ULTRAWIDEBAND FOCUSING ARRAYS USING PLANAR SUBSTRATE TECHNOLOGY
o Designed and implemented a ultrawideband focusing array covering from Ka band up to V band(25GHz~55GHz) using stacked planar substrates.
