These strategies were used to achieve the following goals: to refine basic mechanical errors and language use including issues in grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling word omissions, and word redundancy; to understand the components, organization, and purpose of body paragraph structure; to write precise topic sentences; to properly identify, integrate, and explain appropriate supporting evidence (quote, detail, fact, or example); and to write essays with a developed and structured introduction, with relevant background, clear thesis, appropriate preview points, topic sentences, transition sentences, central arguments and controlling ideas.
