Manager, Mentor and Teacher: I have been fortunate to enjoy a career that has included positions in basic scientific research with well-known institutions such as the UW Madison, Cornell University and UT Southwestern Medical Center. Career Track: Professional growth by writing or co-authoring two successful NIH grants and a privately funded scientific grant. As a result of my extensive work with volunteer groups I was successful in writing a privately funded grant on behalf of the Sierra Services for the Blind in Grass Valley, CA.

Proven Record – Analytical Ability and Problem Solving: I am skilled in analyzing and interpreting data and resolving problems, as shown by collaborations with other researchers and by my long tenure on Editorial Boards of scientific journals. Working to help organize the Medical Response Group at the Triage Unit in Dallas, TX after hurricane Katrina gave me vital experience in having to think creatively under pressure in a situation where peoples’ health and safety were at stake.

Established Management Skills: As well as managing people at research institutions, I gained more experience at BRIT Systems, Inc. by training customers and interacting with the programmers while developing new software. Being a crew leader with the US Census put my interpersonal skills to the test by successfully managing a large group of people from very diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds with the result that we were the top group in our area, based on production and trouble-shooting abilities.

Selected Achievements and Skills

Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills. Evidenced by 35 oral presentations and 15 invited lectures at national and international scientific meetings, being a first author on 15 scientific publications and co-author on 20 additional manuscripts, writing or co-authoring 2 successful NIH grants and 2 privately funded grants and a member of two Editorial Boards for scientific journals.

Outstanding ability to prepare manuscripts and presentations. Based on grants submitted, numerous manuscripts and presentations I prepared, as well my experience with technical writing for BRIT, I am skilled in preparing materials for publication and scientific meetings.

Highly personable and capable of working with well with others at all levels. Indicated by productively training volunteers for various organizations such as On the Wing Again, a bird rehabilitation group. Additionally, I was involved in training and working with volunteers for a voter protection program for fair elections in Dallas and training volunteers for non-partisan races.

Extremely proficient in solving problems and implementing solutions under tight deadlines. Based on my ability to make deadlines for successful grant submission, working under extreme time sensitive conditions after Hurricane Katrina with the Medical Response Group and successfully completing my assignment for the US Census in timely fashion, I am capable of working well under pressure.
