RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

University of Massachusetts Amherst

Research Assistant, June 2010 - August 2012

Conducted research on quantifying link speed correlations along two

interstate corridors using loop detector data from Caltrans PeMS. Upon

successful estimation of a robust and accurate regression model, the

results would contribute to development of the next generation of route

choice models and make real-time traffic congestion prediction more

attainable. Performed statistical analyses in MATLAB, SAS and R on large

samples. Attended weekly meetings with research advisor, delivered

regular progress reports as well as several poster sessions to the

faculty, local media and the members of the College of

Engineering Advisory Board. Authored and co-authored research papers

submitted to TRB. Defended MS thesis on June 26, 2012.Defended master's

thesis on June 26, 2012.

University of Massachusetts Amherst

Teaching Assistant, Fall 2010

Graded assignments of ca. 70 students in Design of Steel Structures

class. Provided feedback and guidance on the subject, clarified points

of confusion and inspired students’ confidence in their knowledge.

C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc.

Forklift Operator, September 2005 - January 2009

As part of the team, assisted shipping and receiving departments of the

500,000 sq.ft frozen grocery warehouse in Westfield, MA. Position

required constant communication with team-members, management, shipping,

receiving, and the on-board computer. Had to follow special safety

precautions due to frozen environment as well as special sanitary

guidelines specific to groceries.

SAMPLE ACADEMIC PROJECTS

GIS for Engineers, Spring 2012

Project leader on an exploratory project to assess Northern Alignment

layout for future expansions of the Northeast Corridor in Eastern CT and

Central MA. Gathered and processed data vector and raster data to

develop a cost raster based on reclassified values in underlying layers.

Cost raster is then used as input for Least Cost Path analysis to find

an optimal route for high speed rail. Described results in a technical

report and presented the findings to the public.

Traffic Simulation, Spring 2012

Evaluated performance of the UMass Amherst campus road network under

evacuation conditions following several staggering strategies. Modeled

campus transportation system in TSIS/CORSIM, and optimized intersection

signal timings using Synchro. Analyzed outputs from different scenarios

in the technical report; prepared animated visualizations of the network

performance for the presentation.

Public Transit Systems, Spring 2012

Coordinated team efforts on the critical review of the New

Haven-Hartford-Springfield rail project. Responsible for the financial

viability assessment; delivered written report and presented the results.

Transportation Systems Analysis, Fall 2011

Project Leader on a transportation planning project aimed to support

transportation policy decision making in the Pioneer Valley region.

Responsible for analysis of survey data, preparation of inputs to the

four-step model and development of Origin-Destination matrix for Pioneer

Valley. Assisted team members in traffic assignment and mode split

tasks. Prepared and publicly presented a technical report.

Intelligent Transportation Systems, Fall 2011

Co-Leader on a project to implement pre-trip and en-route traveler

information services for a transit authority (PAT). Responsible for

coordination of undergraduate team members in production of a coherent

and professional report. Contacted equipment manufacturer to obtain

current pricing information which then served in the preparation of

feasibility projections for different scenarios.

Civil Engineering Design, Spring 2011

Project Manager, coordinated team efforts in the design of a water

distribution system. Primary designer of drainage and flood control

facilities, site layout, access road, interior layout of pump station

building and structural design of the roof. Responsible for AutoCAD

drawing preparation, prepared written reports and cost estimates in

RSMeans for each design stage for all aspects of the project.

Traffic Flow Theory and Simulation, Spring 2011

Brattleboro, VT signalized intersection performance analyses. Used

CORSIM to create digital model of the existing conditions and multiple

improvements to reduce delay; alternatives included signal timing

modifications, roundabouts, added lanes, and elevation of the major

roadway above intersection. Wrote technical report, prepared animated

visualizations and delivered public presentation of the project.

Highway Location and Geometric Design, Spring 2011

Responsible for AutoCAD drawings for a project on layout improvements of

0.7 mile urban road. Prepared horizontal and vertical alignment drawings

on a GIS map, consulted report preparation.
