SC2013 is Loblaw enterprise-wide multi year project, $50M per year initiative which consists of dozens of projects ( Billing, Warehouse Management, Order Management, Transportation ) deployed simultaneously under very tight deadlines. Number of servers and systems deployed is measured in hundreds. Team size was couple of hundreds of members (DBA Team size alone is about 100 – including IBM, client, offshore ).
I developed Gold standard templates for mass database deployments in file system based, Oracle RAC and virtual environments. I provided DBA support and became part of Design team to help develop deployment blueprints for new systems.
I installed Oracle RAC databases for production, mission-critical, enterprise bus ( custom built messaging system ) and scheduling system ( Autosys ). I provided support for all newly built environments and helped client to support legacy production and lower environments.
I worked actively with monitoring development team to deploy monitoring agents to new servers and provided ticket resolution for servers in our domain.
I did extensive Disaster Recovery testing ( failover, recoverability ) for newly built systems, helped design and produce runbooks and related documentation.
I worked with Oracle support to resolve critical Service Requests.
Deployed database changes as requested by various parties ( mostly by vendors or client’s internal Design Team ).
I also provided support to client’s production systems ( high throughput OLTP systems and data warehouses ) when they faced critical issues.
My expertise was referenced and utilized during the toughest challenges client faced when dealing with emergencies and critical issues related to production databases system outages ( primary site SAN failure which implied failing over to DR, then rebuilding primary databases ), performance problems and organizational problems.
