A highly experienced engineering professional who has demonstrated the ability to lead diverse teams of professionals to new levels of success in a highly competitive industry and fast paced environment. Strong technical and analytical skills with over thirty years of hands on experience in strategic planning, business unit development and project management. Proven ability to identify deficiencies and potential opportunities to develop cost effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness, increase revenues, and increase customer satisfaction. I possess a proven history of successes that have consistently surpassed company sales and profit goals in excess of 14% annually. My specific engineering field of expertise is in sheet metal and mechanical design and the manufacture of commercial HVAC air distribution equipment.
Professional Experience:
Director Of Engineering 2006-present:
• Responsible for the direction of twenty four engineers within multiple engineering departments that include Design Engineering, Application Engineering, Research and Development Test Lab, Special Product Development, and Field Service.
• Interfaced with internal and external customers and clients to develop and maintain organizational strategies and operational and technical efficiencies for improving profitability.
• Responsible for departmental budgets, performance reviews and salary administration.
• Negotiated warranty and field service repair costs and guidelines with general contractors, clients and building owners to minimize expenses and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Directed the design effort that resulted in multiple patented proprietary technologies that generated substantial incremental sales.
Engineering Manager: 2004-2006:
• Managed a group of twelve engineers responsible for the design and development of new and existing products related to a $120M line of Fan Powered Terminal Units, VAV Units, Fan Coil Units, Grills / Registers/ Diffusers and Displacement Units for the commercial HVAC industry.
• Responsible for the implementation of ISO 9000 Standards and the coordination and oversight of UL/ETL product safety standards testing and compliance of design.
• Developed new engineering documentation control processes that improved accuracy and reduced time to market. Set guidelines for concept development to final design and coordinated with Manufacturing and Operations Engineering to ensure designs conformed to existing or proposed manufacturing processes.
• Worked closely with sales and marketing managers to define project scope for new product, sales and marketing plans, and manufacturing costs for the introduction of new products.
• Current holder of US patent number 7,328,586 B2 for a "Repositionable Attenuator" for a terminal unit in a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.
Fan Coil Integration Manager: 2002-2004:
• Lead a team of four engineers responsible for the integration of a $10M line of Fan Coil products following the acquisition of a competitor manufacturer. The project scope involved a reverse engineering effort that included all design documentation, engineering bill of materials, development of manufacturing process, conformity to applicable standards and implementation into a new manufacturing facility.
• Lead the team effort between design engineering, manufacturing engineering and plant operations management to ensure that the correct processes and end product met with the design intent.
Terminal Unit Engineering Manager 1994-2002:
• Managed three engineers responsible for new and existing product design support for Fan Powered Terminal Units, VAV Units, Mixing Boxes, and Retro-fit units.
• Worked closely with sales and marketing managers to define scope of design and coordinated with operations to ensure compliance to manufacturing capabilities.
• Responsible for the conversion from Autocad to Solidworks 3D modeling software.
Design Engineer 1985-1994:
• Responsible for new and existing design support for the Fan Powered and VAV Terminal unit product line.
• Selected to lead a team of ten contract engineers, designers, and drafters to reverse engineer and document a complete product line of fan powered terminal units following the acquisition of a competitor company.
Senior Lead Draftsman 1980-1985:
Responsible for the creation of engineering drawings and bills of materials to support special products derived from the standard product line utilizing conventional board drafting and Autocad.
