SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Civil / structural Engineering Technician with 24 years experience on various public works, quality assurance for Dept. of Defense (DoD), bridge, airport expansion, vertical construction, flood control and drainage (underground and surface), roadway and interstate highway systems throughout California, Nevada, Utah and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune North Carolina. Extensive experience in the areas of quality control, field and laboratory technician responsibilities, and construction materials testing and inspection. Other experience includes: contract compliance inspection, contract documentation, daily report preparation, interpretation and implementation of county, state, and local regulations and specifications, working knowledge of ASSHTO / ASTM / NAQTC sampling and testing specifications and procedures.
SELECT PROJECT EXPERIENCE
A representative selection of project experience is included below.
Bridge
California Department of Transportation (Cal Trans) Earthquake Retrofit in Mendocino County, Ca. This project involved retrofitting a total of five steel girder and concrete bridge structures (pedestrian and roadway bridges) as well as a major segment of asphalt restoration for the County Highway system. Responsibilities included the sampling and testing of soil, asphalt pavement, concrete, and performing inspections of rebar, structural steel and coatings.
Kaysville 200 North Grade Separation, Kaysville, Ut. I was lead inspector on site, Project involved construction of a detour road around the project, mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, Barrier and parapet walls, Keystone retaining walls, wick drains (to remove underground water during surcharge settlement), construction of steel girder with concrete deck bridge, and all underground work.
Silverado Ranch Rd. This project involved construction of a new bridge over I 15 in Las Vegas. The project included steel girder and concrete deck bridge retaining walls, MSE walls, earthwork and drainage, asphalt paving with curb and gutters, and tie ins to existing utilities and roads.
FAA
Lake County Airport, Lakeport, Ca. Performed as lead technician for on site field and laboratory testing and inspection services. The project involved extension and widening of runway, taxiway, resurfacing tarmac, and construction of underground and surface drainage. I coordinated field and laboratory activities, prepare reports file and distribution of documentation.
Road and Highway
Pavement Restoration Project, Clark Co, Nv. I provided contractor quality control inspections and testing for acceptance on soils, and asphalt pavements.
Fountain Grove Parkway, Santa Rosa, Ca. Performed as lead technician for on site inspections and testing (field and laboratory). The project involved five miles of road with 80+ feet high embankments and rock fills, fill stabilization, and underground utilities, paving, retaining walls, and bridge construction. Duties included supervising field and laboratory technicians, inspectors, and coordinate field and laboratory activities, prepare reports file and distribute documentation.
I 215 Bypass widening This project involved adding one lane in each direction from Decatur Blvd. to Durango Dr. This project included PCC paving, improving barrier wall and underground utilities and storm drains.
Sound Walls, Retaining Walls, MSE Walls
I 515 Sound Walls Las Vegas Nv. This project included construction of precast sound wall from I 95 to Sahara Blvd. I was responsible for precast inspection at Olsen Precast as well as placing precast post and panels on the freeway.
Most all projects listed in Road and Highway and Bridges involve Keystone retaining walls or MSE walls.
Quality Assurance for Department of Defense (DOD)
Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Worked on a three year contract that was renewable every year. Contract is in the second year of work at this time. Duties included twice daily visits to several projects on base. Each visit consisted of site safety compliance and observing that the project is conforming to the plans, specifications and scope of work. Compiled weekly reports and filed superintendent’s daily reports in DoD E-files. Compiled and processed project final inspection documents. Reviewed submittals and pay applications for contract compliance.
Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Experience
SNWA Project 080K – C-1 Detention Basin. This project consisted of clearing and grubbing, site work, excavation and grading for the construction of a detention basin and levee. Also included is the construction of concrete spillway, soil cement slope protection, fencing, and site restoration. Responsibilities included sampling and testing of construction materials (soil and concrete), corresponding documentation, and assisting structural inspectors.
SNWA Project 080ER – Ozone Addition. The addition of the Ozone facilities to SNWA’s Alfred Merrit Smith Water Treatment Facility (AMSWTF) will provide pre-ozonation ahead of existing flocculation and filtration facilities. The work consists of utility relocation and interconnection to existing facilities, construction of Ozone Contactors and appurtenant yard structures and piping, construction of the Ozone Building, and installation of equipment, valves and instruments provided by the owner. Responsibilities included sampling and testing of construction materials (soil and concrete), corresponding documentation, and assisting construction inspectors.
Schools
Sonoma County School District, Sonoma County, Ca. Responsibilities included construction inspections, sampling and testing materials and applications, documentation.
Clark County School District Clark County, Nv. I provided owner construction inspections, quality assurance testing to verify contractor’s compliance to the project specifications in soils, concrete, masonry and rebar placement.
Jails
Sonoma County Male Adult Detention Facility, Santa Rosa, Ca. This project involved a four story masonry addition plus a roof addition to an existing detention facility. As a field technician, I performed masonry inspection and testing, pile-driving observation, soils testing, concrete testing, rebar inspections
Flood Control
Windmill Detention Basin, Mesquite, Nv. I provided the owner with construction inspections on forms, rebar, concrete placement, and quality assurance testing to verify contractor compliance to the project specifications of soils, soil-cement, concrete, and roller compacted concrete (RCC).
Charleston Blvd. & I 15 Flood Control, Las Vegas, Nv. This project consisted of construction of a 13’ x 13’ box culvert one mile long to 4’ x 6’ box culvert. I provided owner construction inspections, QA compliance, and documentation.
Other
Hiltop Tank Farm, Richmond, Ca. Environmental services were required during the dismantling of the fuel tanks on this particular tank farm which was targeted for future commercial and residential development. The scope of work included encapsulating oily soils in clay repositories. Field technician responsibilities included density testing, permeability testing, well development and sampling, and use of OVA’s to determine the extent of hydrocarbons in the soils.
