Hardware: Component level debug and trouble-shooting of digital electronic circuit boards in telecommunication Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch systems, DSL and routers in an engineering research and development environment.
Software: Software experience included writing loop programs in machine language, c and diagnostic SW interface. Wrote and implemented a TCL script for efficient and effective monitoring of the numerous PC boards being developed at Cisco Systems.
Soldering: Provided soldering expertise for replacing, repairing or swapping out components, including surface mount components, and provided engineering change orders (eco). Utilized appropriate tools, such as microscope, heat gun, picks and irons.
Documenting: Established documentation for implementing eco’s, test procedures, tracking status and location of device under development, and provided liaison between the various organizations within the company, such as SQA, SW and/or HW engineering.

Work Experience Overview Note:
I have fixed hundreds of circuit board problems. I have seen many problems and used a variety of techniques to figure out what is wrong; from this experience an intuitive aspect of figuring out what is wrong has naturally developed. This includes trouble shooting manufactured circuit boards having a stable design, as well as debugging prototype circuit boards which inherently may have possible design problems. A brief survey of the problems encountered would include: wrong part, incorrectly programmed part (i.e. ROM, PROM, PAL, FPGA), part not programmed, solder joint problems (cold soldered, bent pin, pin not soldered, empty socket barrel, vibration sensitive, shorted joints, solder blob to name a few), components failing on the edges of voltage or temperature, connector and connection problems - particularly relating to mounting a daughter card to a line card, incompetent part - such as a driver not up to the task, shorted caps, open resistors, overheating problems (I use the laying on of hands method to find - feel/seek out the overheating component), defective and/or degraded part, ringing problems - where the source signal looks fine - but at the destination there is overshoot / undershoot of a clock signal or chip select, data bus contention (two components vying to drive the data bus), timing problems - data bus not stable, address problems - such as ghost address selected (memory map issue). This list is not exhaustive, but does demonstrate practical experience of numerous problems encountered.
Much of the testing and validating involved using diagnostic software to run tests. Simple read / write controller component data bus using 55's and AA's (101010 etc) provides a rapid assessment. Most problems can be found using an O-scope. Logic analyzers are used to find more complex problem, such as recording the address and data bus and triggering on a specific event. All microprocessors or microprocessor controller run code, so using a logic analyzer, I have stepped through a portion of code to establish what is going on (or what is going wrong).
