1) Abrasive Waterjet Peening with elastic prestress to treat cementless implants/prosthetic surfaces (PhD Dissertation)
• Experimentally evaluated the effect of treatment parameters on surface characteristics (residual stress and roughness).
• Subsurface residual stress and plastic damage were measured by layer removal and nanoindentation respectively.
• Process optimization enhanced the residual stress characteristics by 50 – 125% depending on the metal alloy.
• Developed Quasi-static non-linear FE models in ABAQUS to evaluate the residual stress field on various metals.
• Evaluated plastic strain fields to identify damage mechanisms as a function of applied prestress and boundary conditions.
• Involved in facilities planning/design, inventory, scheduling experiments and communicating with lab members.
• Responsible for knowledge transfer to new graduate students in the research group.
2) Surface treatment of cortical bone using an Abrasive Air-Jet
• Developed a first of a kind surface treatment technique for bone and hard tissue.
• Identified the stand-alone and interaction effects of treatment parameters on the treated surface.
• Evaluated the potential for using the technique to change the surface chemistry of bone.
3) Failure Analysis of Dental Implants
• Surface Profilometry and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used to analyze failed titanium implant surfaces.
• Surface characteristics were used to conduct a comparative study between the failed and new implants.

Design and Analysis of a Multi-port Pump Using Fluid Flow Modeling (MS Thesis)
• Modeled the turbulent flow in a 2-piece multi-port pump to analyze the effect of design parameters on leakage.
• Fluid flow in the micro scale was modeled in Fluent and recommended design strategies to reduce leakage by 40%.
