Objective

I have over 25 years experience in manufacturing production in both the commercial and DoD markets. My experience covers; being a production machine Associate, Research and Development, Process Engineering, Training, ISO/QS 9000 certification, Management and Production Planner in a DoD environment.

Experience

June 2001- August 2010 General Dynamics ATP Charlotte operations

Production Planner

•Repair/Returns coordinator for the JBPDS, STRYKER, JSLSCAD and FIRST programs. This includes monthly reports for unit status.

•I have planned the production of ICAM, MICAD, JSLSCAD, ACADA, Drift Tube, CAM MWO, USAF, USARC, CANTEEN, JUNO and miscellaneous spares jobs. I also planned the Identifier for JBPDS prior to Charlotte move.

•Track back orders for current jobs.

•Identify production needs based on the delivery schedule. If necessary contact the vendors to expedite parts.

•Identify potential shortages for possible job bids.

•Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Program managers and the Operators on the floor to identify problems and shortages.

Accomplishments

•With the help of Manufacturing Engineering; developed a data base to track all R&R equipment.

•Started a matrix schedule using MS Project to track ICAM, CAM MWO and Identifier production.

•Started doing inventories for my programs to identify shortages earlier.

•Worked with production to improve tracking of parts while on the production floor.

•Participated on the Production Control team to put our work orders, requisitions and transfers on an electronic system. This allows us to type the information and for requisitions print directly to the stock room.

•To reduce lost time on scrap parts I started a floor stock system in the Identifier room. This reduced the time and money required to replace parts.

•Worked with Quality Assurance to create a data base that identifies material at receiving inspection. The report is “real time” in that it can be updated to show new receipts. It also identifies items inspected and found to be discrepant. I publish this report to the operations managers weekly.

•Eliminated the numerous tracking sheets for the Repair/Return system to improve tracking.

•Working with purchasing, we have been able to beat all estimated costs for the repair of lasers. This has resulted in an improved ROI for these projects.

June 19, 2000- April 23, 2001 Boston Whaler Edgewater, FL

Production Supervisor

•Managed 22 employees to manufacture sub-assembly components used in the production of high quality boats.

•Responsible for the budget, planning and scheduling of the flow of work in the department to meet the production schedule.

•Coordinate the flow of parts to 6 different boats lines producing 14 different models of boats per day.

•Produce daily reports showing the efficiency of each boat line.

•Provide support to each assembly line.

Accomplishments

•Developed system to track the delivery of parts to sub-assembly and to the assembly lines.

•Developed a system to control the receipt and delivery of vendor parts.

•Worked with engineering to produce the parts more efficiently.

•Improved the departments’ efficiency by 20% in the first six months.

•Reduced the department spending by $1700.00 in the first 6 months.

1984–2000 US Filter corporation Deland, FL

Production Supervisor

•Managed 36 employees over 3 shifts, 2 shift supervisors and 2 departments to meet production control schedule.

•Brought departments together as a team. Implemented cross training to increase Associate value to the company and create a more flexible work force.

•Managed day to day Personnel, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Engineering, Sales and Planning issues to keep material moving in order to meet schedule.

•Worked with R&D and Engineering in the development and implementation of new processes and technologies.

•Insured that new processes and technologies put into production are done so to ISO/QS9000 standards.

•Reported directly to Production Manager and Vice President of Operations.

Accomplishments

•Assisted in the development of a material flow process that allows maximum production with less people.

•Put new flow process into production and trained operators on how the flow works.

•Created data base to track production, measure productivity and generate reports.

•Formed a team of Engineers, Managers and production Associates to continuously develop and improve processes through better communication and team work. Through a Design Of Experiments we eliminated a 24 hour process step which increased productivity and reduced material processing costs.

•We designed our own proprietary copper plating equipment. The system was running at less than 50% efficiency, over budget and limited to 1 qualified operator when I assumed the department responsibility. By working with engineering we achieved over 95% efficiency, made the necessary modifications using our in house resources which made the cost minimal and trained 5 qualified operators operating 3 shifts.

•Worked with Human resources and Vice President of Operations to write policy for mandatory overtime, new hire screening process and new hire evaluations.

•Formed processes teams; and as Team Sponsor help teams continually improve current processes and prepare for new ones.

Process engineering

•Work with senior engineer in the design of new processes and technologies.

•Assist in the coordination of technicians to meet development schedules.

•Assemble, place and debug new processes to operate in a production atmosphere.

•Insure the process meets ISO9001 standards.

•Transition process into production through hands on training.

Accomplishments

•Developed a new Lotus based program for issuing work orders to the shop floor that eliminated inaccurate instructions for processing material and simplified making changes to the work orders when improvements are made to the process.

•Assigned the task of improving a process that was generating 90% scrap and rework. Within 90 days the process was producing 100% quality product at twice the previous production levels.

Trainer

•Review procedures for accuracy and make necessary changes.

•Spent over 1 year writing training manuals to ensure consistent training for all Associates.

•Made improvements to the procedures and processes. Incorporated changes into the procedures and trained Associates.

•Make a training schedule to train trainers. The trainers would then train all Associates.

Shift Supervisor

•Responsible for the operation of the entire facility on the night shift.

•Managed all departments from maintenance to machine shop.

•Prioritized maintenance repairs of equipment to keep material flowing to meet schedule.

Accomplishments

•Formed a safety team to address potential and existing problems with Associate and plant safety.

•Research and Development

•Operated a Killion 1” extruder to demonstrate filer performance to potential customers.

•Developed and tested new media for release to production.

•Evaluated filters that failed in the field to determine cause of failure and improve design.

•Assisted production in improving existing media; which included operating production equipment.

Education

1979–1981 National Institute of Technology East Detriot, MI

•I have a certificate from the National Institute of Technology in the field of Electronic Engineering Technology. This course covered the principles, design and utilization of electronics in manufacturing.

•Graduated.

•APICS certification.

Equipment Certified

Certified to operate and train on the following equipment; Vacuum Furnaces (Abar and VFS), Continuous Flow furnace (BTU), Strand Annealing (gas fired tube furnace for annealing drawn wire), Fine and Heavy Wire Drawing Machines (Skets, Herborns, Morgans and Vaughns), Textile Equipment (Rando; Openers, Cards and Webbers), Rolling Mills up to 52” wide, Copper Plating, Die Cutters (Balloffee; Ultrasonic and Wire type) and Pleaters. Coast Guard certified in Florida for boating safety.
