United States Army Aeromedical Laboratory, Fort Rucker, Alabama
Position: Research Assistant/Information Officer (June 1996 – June 2000):
As a research assistant at the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory, my duties varied considerably. Initially, my responsibilities included being the non-ionizing radiation officer dealing with the safety and logistical issues of laser and microwave radiation on post. Further, I was the assistant environmental safety officer which included responsibilities of adherence to local and federal safety regulations and compliance with Army-wide policy. In my final years, I was the Chief Information Officer in charge of the laboratory’s internet and intranet presence. I started an intranet from the ground-up for the laboratory. Later, an internet presence was needed and I started the internet presence for the laboratory. I also wrote numerous customized applications to be used by the various head researchers and to assist in my duties.
Key accomplishments:
Implementing a compliant non-ionizing radiation program for the laboratory, the first of its kind in the US Medical Command.
Bringing the environmental safety program of the laboratory up to applicable levels to satisfy local, state and federal codes.
Planning designing and implementing a Material Safety Database Sheet (MSDS) database to interface with local fire authorities and exceed any local, state or federal codes. This was the first of its kind in the whole Medical command.
