Provided Solaris 8 support including all aspects of Solaris administration for a four processor Sun E-5500 with 3 terabytes of disk storage on Sun A5000 and A5200 series fiber channel disk arrays using Veritas Volume Manager to create, modify and delete storage volumes. Ensured the integrity of our data with Veritas Netbackup. Provided minor Oracle support such as manual SQL script execution, patch application and minor upgrades with DBA direction, database exports, installation and configuration of Oracle 8i Recovery Manager in conjunction with Veritas Netbackup upgrade, provided Centra 2000 data integrity and iPlanet web server configuration and support, and provided Veritas Netbackup and Veritas Volume Manager support. Collaborated with project manager to provided system documentation including network maps using Visio. Created a small web site for user documentation. Configured daily, weekly and monthly backups and handled all file restoration requests. Modified and maintain the system in a secure manner according to USAF specification including maintaining SSL Certificates of Authority used in our iPlanet secure web server that was accessed for specific documents across the base network and from other areas as far as Japan and Hawaii. Performed other systems related duties as assigned by the Program Manager. Collaborated with our counterparts at Robins AFB in Georgia on a complete upgrade of systems including Oracle 8i to 9i, our document delivery system and a replacement of iPlanet Web Server with Apache Tomcat. Added an I/O board in one of two remaining board slots on the 5500 after inserting GBIC modules to the board for their fiber communication with a new disk 1.5 TB disk array. Physically installed the A5200 1.5 TB disk array into a rack of six similar disk arrays, replacing an older, smaller disk array and then reconfigured the arrays so that they would be recognized by the server. Used Veritas Volume Manager to create necessary volumes on the new arrays to store data residing on the arrays and transferred the data from old arrays to the new array which provide a 150% improvement in disk I/O performance. Added more memory modules to the two active motherboards, each containing 2 CPUs, doubling our RAM.
