EXPERIENCE
AguaClara Program- Cornell University Civil & Environmental Engineering Departments, Ithaca, NY 8/2011-5/2012
Research Associate- Sedimentation Tank Hydraulics Lab Technician
- Worked collaboratively with research directors and student team on doctorate research for AguaClara, an Intel award-winning program focused on providing sustainable technology solutions to water quality issues in developing nations
- Engaged in research team charged with running lab-based tests for water quality technology to be used in the field, specifically tests to optimize resuspension of floc particles in sedimentation tank for floc blanket formation
- Analyzed dye test video footage to determine the exact mechanism for resuspension
- Data to be used in report examining factors affecting floc blanket reliability, and results to be implemented in the field
Stockton Regional Wastewater Control Facility- Stockton, CA 9/2010-3/2011
Senior Project- Energy Auditor and Solids Manager
- Worked alongside Carollo Engineers in full-scale consulting engagement to adapt wastewater facility to a projected 55 MGD plant flow
- Created a strategic plan for optimizing energy use
- Calculated energy harvested from digesters based on solids loading, analyzed FOG utilization in digesters, and assessed denitrification problems due to pond short-circuiting
- Determined facility's overall energy demand
- Identified and evaluated renewable energy opportunities
- Culminated in an extensive research paper (including significant calculations, graphs, forecasting, and consultative energy savings recommendations), which was presented to a group of peers, professors and professional engineers
Cal Poly Wastewater Treatment Project & Algae Research- San Luis Obispo, CA 3/2010-6/2010
Lab Technician
- Worked as a technician in student research lab examining the role of algae in the denitrification process and its applications to the treatment of wastewater
- Analyzed nutrient samples using total organic carbon/nitrogen instrument and Kjeldahl nitrogen apparatus, ensuring test reliability by implementing QA/QC methods
David J. Elliot & Son- Courtland, CA 6/2010-9/2010
Shipping Assistant Manager
- Charged with managing business relations with outside vendors- including the management of minimum 20 twenty-ton shipping orders a day and the organization of daily transfer orders with freight companies
- Represented the company in negotiations with external representatives
- Required extensive interpersonal skills, business acumen, and operational insight
Payroll Bookkeeper 6/2009-9/2009
- Managed payroll invoices for 70 employees and completed weekly check disbursements

ACTIVITIES
American Society of Civil Engineers-Water Environment Federation (ASCE-WEF) Water Treatment Competition- 2010, 2011
Design Team Leader
- Led a 10-person student team in a nation-wide, university-based competition, tasked with constructing a filtration-based water treatment system given only the supplies from a typical garage
- Investigated water treatment techniques- analyzed efficacy of system by testing factors including turbidity, total nitrogen, pH, and dissolved oxygen
- Constructed gravity-fed system capable of treating water at a high level without the use of electricity
- Placed 1st at ASCE Regional Competition, 2nd at WEF National Competition
Engineers without Borders, Cal Poly Chapter- 2009-2011
- Engaged actively in the Cal Poly chapter of Engineers without Borders, an international organization helping NGO's worldwide bring sustainable engineering solutions to environmental issues facing developing nations
- Analyzed water filtration solutions to ongoing water treatment project in Thailand
- Involved extensive use of AutoCad, especially to create accurate representations of potential treatment mechanisms (e.g. the implementation of rapid sand filters to treat drinking water)
