During this twelve-week outpatient orthopedic affiliation, I gained experience in the evaluation and treatment of a variety of outpatient orthopedics patients. I developed both land and aquatic-based treatment plans, and worked with athletes following sport-related injuries.
Heritage Springs January 2011 – February 2011

Throughout this eight-week affiliation in a skilled nursing facility, I performed evaluations and treatments of neurological, post-operative, and generally de-conditioned patients. I worked closely with a rehabilitation team, including speech and occupational therapists, nursing staff, and physicians to develop and implement patient plans of care.
Springfield Regional Medical Center June 2010 – August 2010

For the duration of this six-week general medicine and acute care affiliation, I performed evaluations of acute injuries, illness, post-surgical and intensive care patients, focusing specifically on post-operative cardiac patients in the intensive care unit. In addition, I worked closely with occupational therapists, nursing staff, physicians, and other disciplines to develop a patient plan of care and discharge plan.

At Orion Physical Therapy Specialists, I worked full-time as a physical therapy aide. I assisted physical therapists with patient exercises and treatment. In addition, I performed front office duties including patient scheduling, verification of patient insurance coverage, assisted with claims processing, and collection of copayments.

As co-president, I was responsible for planning, directing and implementing several fundraising events over three years, including a golf outing, which raised over $10K. The funds were used for class participation in state and national conferences, student scholarships, and banquet activities. Other responsibilities included regular attendance at program faculty meetings, where I acted as an information liaison between the students and the faculty, provided opinions and insights regarding the PT program’s strengths, including the interviewing process and curriculum issues designed to improve the strength of the UD PT program.
