PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS – HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA 2007–2010
Network Engineer, Southern California
Designed, coordinated and implemented world class fiber optic/copper telecommunication networks to commercial, government and consumer customers including data, voice and video (FIOS + BAU). Issued work orders to engineers/contractors. Provided project cost estimates to satisfy network requirements. Used data and systems to make accurate estimates for device and equipment arrival dates, facilities availability and customer desired due dates.
• Coordinated 300+ cell site upgrade projects surpassing 85% completion target date by 5%, resulting in >$450K monthly revenue.
• Directed California outside-plant project team to execute inventory reduction plan. Effort resulted in reduced inventory space and capital savings of ~20%.
• Developed innovative technical solution for more cost efficient air tank method to handle copper network leakage issue at Laguna Beach site. Solution saved >$19K/month; slated for implementation at >25 other California locations.
• Met customer request for complex fiber network map using MS Street & Trips software. Obtained license and instructed 10 network planners to implement into routine job function.
• Volunteered to research and develop department objective tracking standard; resulted in improved information which led to 20% increased performance efficiency.
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA RIVERSIDE (UCR) – RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA 2005–2006
Research Assistant, UCR MSLAB (Mixed-Signal Nanometer VLSI Research Lab)
Designed automation for VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated System) integrated circuits. Researched and developed software model for generation of power, current, capacity, resistance, inductance and VHDL scale voltage calculations.
• Results published in IEEE Journal (B. Liu, S. X.-D. Tan, “Minimum decoupling capacitor insertion in VLSI power/ground supply networks by semidefinite and linear programs”, IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integrated Systems (TVLSI), vol. 15, no. 11, pp. 1284-1287, Nov. 2007).
