Duties:
1. Routine tissue accessioning, assign lab specimen number, indicate dated received and log into the accession binder.
2. Full grossing of specimen to include the following: size, color, number of cassette(s) submitted. Dictated and/or written gross description provided to the Dermatopathologist with the completed slide(s)
3. Tissue processing to include embedding, cutting and staining specimens. Able to process a properly stained slide by microscopic evaluation. Meets turnaround time expectations for specimen processing 90% of the time. Labels and processes specimens with less than two errors annually.
4. Performs special stains and re-cuts from blocks as requested by the Dermatopathologist
5. Histology lab maintenance to include: Preparation of reagents for tissue procedures, documenting reagent changes, routine preventative maintenance to include filter changes, hot water flush documenting on appropriate log sheets. Documentation of equipment temperatures on appropriate log sheets. Filing dermatopathology slides.
B. Mohs Lab:
1. Cut inked tissue specimen, mount and prep frozen section slides as directed by Mohs Dermatologic Surgeon.
2. Accession frozen section specimens, keep accession log.
3. Mohs lab maintenance to include: Routine preventative maintenance of the cryostat, automated stainer, microscope
4. participates in special projects
Research Experience:
From Jan 1999 till Aug 2004 I worked on a research project to analyse the phenoglycotypes of the Diffuse Neuroendocrine System in human tissues including pancreas, adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid and associated tumors by means of immuno- and lectin histochemistry of paraffin-embedded tissues. The methodology utilized biotinylated lectins/antibodies and an avidin-peroxidase revealing system.
