Professional Experience

General Mills, Minneapolis, MN

Technology Manager – Process Systems Development

April 2005 to August 2012

• Led successful Process Design effort on the commercialization of a vegetable texture improvement process for retorted entrees and frozen vegetables. Succeeded in producing a “firmer” vegetable product/ingredient.

• Led successful Process Design effort in transition of existing baking mix to zero trans fat formulation, resulting in cost avoidance of $2MM.

• Led successful Process Design effort, and Process Engineering effort for integration of fruit snacks at a contract facility. Resulted in additional product capacity of 10MM LBS, and $500M initial cost savings (50% toll reduction).

• Lead Process Design Engineer on a “fruit bar” project which resulted in a more reliable and accurate feeding of dried fruit.

• Lead Process Engineer in the investigation, testing and installation of Optical Sorting Equipment on Vegetable Blanching / IQF processing lines. Product quality improvement, increased throughputs, reduced labor costs; along with reduction in system waste were experienced.

Technology Manager – R&D Cereal Division

May 2003 to April 2005

• Extrusion System Platform Lead.

o Ensured system readiness for on-site startups during integration of Whole Grain formulation onto Twin Screw platform for cereal products.

o Completed “Tier Two” product migration from existing cooking platforms – to Twin Screw platform, in support of operations needs. Migration allowed for delay and reduction in capital investments.

o Start Up of “Domestic” cereal, on CPW - Mexico, Twin Screw system in support of Twin Screw cereal capacity needs, eliminating need for immediate $5MM “Domestic” TS capacity capital investment.

o Support of Supply Chain needs for cereal products (new and existing), as it pertained to the Extrusion System Platform.

Senior Engineer – R&D Cereal Division

May 2000 to May 2003

• Twin Screw Rate Improvement. Lead in Process Design - R&D effort in doubling rates (2X) to Twin Screw Extrusion system products. Doubling of rates allowed for rescheduling of capital equipment investments, avoiding a $10MM capital investment.

• Modified Process Flow for existing product, allowing operations to delay capital investments on cereal systems, with cost avoidance in of $4MM.

Senior Engineer – R&D Snacks Division

May 1997 to May 2000

• Worked primarily on fruit snack platform products.

o Process Rate and Control Improvements in cooking platform, eliminating need of additional systems.

o Introduction of multi-color product – new product introduction.

o Improved cooling unit operation on existing product lines, increasing uptime of downstream unit operations, resulting in increased packaging rates.
