As an Orthodontic Assistant I had various duties to fulfill. My main responsibility was working on patients chair side. I had to perform the treatment plans for each patient, this entailed tying and untying patients, changing wires, fitting bands, prepping the teeth for braces, removing and putting on ligs, power chains, koby’s and other specific items used to accomplish space closing and movement of the teeth. I also had to take initial records on the patients and final records, this included taking oral and facial photos, x –rays and impressions for each patient. Some other duties I was responsible for was to sterilize the tools and set up for direct bonds, debands, and any other long appointments on the schedule. Inventory was also a part of my job as an assistant. Along with working on patents and assisting the doctor I also worked at the front desk scheduling appointments, collecting payments and talking to insurance companies.
