Project Title: Low cost digital USB based Spirometer.

Project Guidance: Under Dr. Maruti, HOD (Physiology), St John Medical College, Koramangala, Blore.

Project Description: Spiro meters are used to diagnose many pulmonary diseases including chronic respiratory diseases that affect approximately 300 million people. Many of these people do not have access to a spirometer because current models are expensive and operation requires a trained technician to administer the procedure. The purpose of this project is to develop a low-cost Spirometer usable without the aid of a trained technician.

Overview: The main aim of our project is minimize the cost of the spirometer we have prepared cost about thousand rupees. The pulmonary Function Test costs about 1500 to 3000 rupees in lab or hospital centers, so if the instrument is only of thousand’s then the test would be very less which helps socio-economic people. The designed instrument is a battery driven as the test could be done in case of scarcity of power also. The result can be analyzed by the flow count on the LCD display and graphs can also be plotted using the USB port with the help of the frontend software (CMC Vellore).
