Director of Distribution

As Director of Distribution for major distributor of electronic components to consumer industry and part of Marketing and Distribution Division (MDD) within $450M Premier Farnell, collaborated with division team responsible for $34M in sales and annual shipments of 450,000 packages. Maintained responsibility for $5M budget. Turned around productivity, safety, team morale and achieved marked increase in Corporate Social Responsibility. Distribution center stocked over 45,000 parts from over 600 vendors with access to over 1.5 million parts and owned the rights to several private label brands.

Managed team of three supervisors, 50 non-union warehouse employees and 140,000 sq. ft. distribution center. Managed security at both Distribution Center and office complex located in Centerville, Ohio.

Maintained increased productivity while achieving 975 days without a Lost Time Accident and 520 without an OSHA Recordable Accident. Reached safety milestones, re-energizing Safety Team by initiating accountability standards, monthly evaluation meetings, weekly forklift employee safety talks and monthly reviews of team safety observations.

Established Key Performance Indicators and new work processes. Implemented in collaboration with distribution team. Efforts decreased cost/order by 15% while significantly increasing employee morale.

Cross Trained all employees in multiple work tasks and established work teams with newly trained personnel. Directed work teams to key areas of responsibility on daily basis with designated member of each work group responsible for all areas within a production zone. This approach to team implementation allowed for less indirect time and accounted for 12% reduction in labor staff.

Reduced packaging costs by 35%. Formed “Green Team” using recycled boxes for shipping where possible, reduced packaging supplies 50% and trash pick-up by 66%.

Distribution Center Manager, Snacks Division

Managed 240,000 sq. ft. distribution center within $3B International Corporation. Turned around chronic problems in productivity, safety and budget control. Following close of 15,000 sq. ft. Huntington, W. Virginia Distribution Center, consolidated 60 employees, two support staff, one Assistant Manager and one Warehouse Supervisor into Cincinnati location with annual sales of $35M and $5.5M Distribution and Transportation budget.

Addressed budget control issue through cost analysis and development of monthly Budget Variance Report that addressed all budget items over threshold of $500.00. Plan was adopted throughout the distribution network, raising awareness of personnel to expenditures and staying within budget.

Directed key safety initiative. Led safety team, established performance testing and drove accurate collection of data for Safety Task Force determining new safety regulations. Initiative decreased injuries. Also produced a Warehouse Safety Record of 305 days without a lost time injury.

Served on Task Force for on-board computer systems. Maintained key role in testing, data collection and analysis critical to flawless selection of system, improving tracking, accuracy and efficiency.

Produced collaborative team effort that analyzed and resolved productivity problems. Morale increased while productivity rose 16%, overtime decreased by 10%, and increased picking accuracy

Managed critical Huntington Distribution Center evacuation due to area chemical spill. Maintained contact with all parties, supervised plant evacuation and rerouted shipments and deliveries to Cincinnati Distribution Center.
