Work for a large pharmaceutical company managing all aspects of their regional Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC). Responsible for assuring all files and documents are in compliance with animal welfare laws and regulations (USDA, OLAW, PHS, AAALAC, etc). Administer protocol and related submissions throughout the review process. Plan and coordinate committee meetings with departments across all sites. Generate reports, meeting minutes, regulatory submissions, and presentations as needed. Schedule and track all required inspections (facility program review, post-approval compliance monitoring, etc) and subsequent reports. Oversee and provide training of all new IACUC members, investigators, and animal users. Involved in the development, testing and implementation of a new electronic web-based animal use protocol writing, submission and review program.

Worked for a small biotechnology company where I performed drug discovery research and preclinical development on novel peptides and small molecules for the treatment of several diseases/disorders, such as erectile/sexual dysfunction, obesity/cachexia, inflammation, congestive heart failure, and cancer, using in vitro and in vivo techniques. Actively researched and developed several of the techniques listed below, as well as wrote and implemented several animal protocols using rats and mice for research use. Served on the IACUC as scientific advisor, voting member, and administrator for 4 years. Led obesity project for 2 years (for drug discovery); led in-vivo section of DMPK group for 4 years (for preclinical development). Performed safety assessment and toxicology studies in support of research programs and summarized data by writing study reports for 1 year. All studies, both in vitro and in vivo, were performed in the spirit of GLP.
