Main designs: Day lighting design for an indoor sports hall - Vila do Conde (Portugal) Relevant Details In this stadium, the goal was to provide optimal use of daylight while avoiding direct radiation in the indoor soccer field. I proposed the use of a large size non-imaging optics (NIO) device. The NIO device was installed in the spectator’s space, thereby avoiding audience glare problems. Radiance simulations show significantly improved lighting levels in clear sky conditions (compared to existing day lighting solutions). A set of lateral, moveable acoustic reflectors was introduced. Total seating capacity: 250. Design of the energy collection/storage/conversion system. Relevant Details The project incorporates and extends an existing farmhouse in a remote location in the warmest region of Portugal. An energy collection/storage facility will be installed near the house, using solar energy (PV and thermal collectors) and a backup generator to meet all energy needs.
