PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

GHG Corporation, Risk Manager and Engineer IV, Houston, TX (July 2009- May 2011)

Ms. Tipps served as risk manager for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Constellation Training Facility project (CxTF). Her primary responsibilities for this position were to provide cost engineering support to identify high risk mission critical components, assess cost/schedule/technical viability of requirements and interfaces, support review of systems trades focusing on new platforms and systems services, and provide cost and schedule risk assessment to the CxTF project.

Leaf Cuisine, Restaurant Manager Apprentice, Redondo Beach, CA (September 2008-November 2008)

As manager, Ms. Tipps ensured that the restaurant operated efficiently and profitably while maintaining the reputation and ethos. Because it was a new restaurant start up, Ms. Tipps had the opportunity to set up shift pattern organization and day-to-day management activities, as well as having a key role in marketing and business develop. The grand opening day brought in over $2K in sales.

Demetria also implemented her systems engineering skills by setting up the point-of-sale (POS) software system and the backup requirements needed for front end quick service.

ARES Corporation, Project Controls Cost Specialist and Risk Manager, London, Ontario & Calgary, Alberta, Canada (May 2006-June 2007)

Ms. Tipps joined the Project Management Services group of ARES Corporation in May 2006. She provided services in cost engineering functions as well as supervising the installation, implementation and training of the PRISM software support to Suncor Energy.

Ms. Tipps also served as the Risk Management Specialist for the Voyageur Upgrader in assessment of risk associated with the Offsites Project Team.

ARES Corporation, Systems Engineer, Houston, TX (August 2005-April 2006)

Ms. Tipps joined the ARES Corporation in August 2005. She supported the technical risk identification, risk analysis and risk mitigation planning on the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) Phase 1 Project. She used the Active Risk Manager tool in the process of supporting the Northrop Grumman Boeing CEV Team in risk management.

Ms. Tipps has also supported risk management effort for the Boeing IDIQ in assessment of risk associated with the Space Shuttle Thermal Protection System.

ARES Corporation, Intern, Houston, TX & Arlington, VA (June 2004-May 2005)

Ms. Tipps conducted an inventory on the content management system for NASA’s Processed Based Mission Assurance Knowledge Management System to enhance search capabilities for documents within the system. She also developed a design for the tutorial section that included a lesson plan and help questions to introduce to viewers the PBMA Knowledge Management System and all of its components.

Student Commencement Speaker, George Washington University (May 2005)

Ms. Tipps was chosen by a panel of distinguished faculty and staff, including the University Marshall of The George Washington University to serve as the student speaker for the 2005 Commencement Exercises to represent the over 6,000 students in her graduating class. Ms. Tipps was the first student ever to be chosen to speak at commencement from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Division I Basketball Player and Student Coach, George Washington University (August 2000-May 2005)

Ms. Tipps served as a member of the Division I Women’s Basketball program during her tenure at GW. In her fifth year she served as the teams’ student assistant coach in which she assisted in the management of Public Relations and recruitment activities for the program that brought in five top high school players in the country in 2005.
